Objective: To quantify benzodiazepine use non-compliant with guidelines in patients with psychiatric and non-psychiatric chronic diseases and assess the risk of non-recommended use associated with these diseases.

Method: A cohort study was conducted in the French health insurance databases, including 254,488 new benzodiazepine users between 2007 and 2014. Psychiatric, cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes and inflammatory diseases were identified. Patients were followed for 2 years. Non-recommended use was defined as excessive treatment duration, use of long half-life drugs in older patients and concomitant use of several benzodiazepines. Cox models identified the factors associated with non-recommended use.

Results: Non-recommended use was frequent, ranging from 44.9% to 68.1%. It was independently associated with each chronic disease, with a slight increase in patients with chronic inflammatory disease (HR = 1.07; 95%CI 1.03-1.13) or diabetes (HR = 1.09; 1.06-1.12), a higher risk in those with chronic cardiovascular disease (HR = 1.34; 1.31-1.37) or cancer (HR = 1.30; 1.25-1.35) and the highest risk in those with psychiatric disease (HR = 2.04; 2.00-2.09).

Conclusion: Patients with chronic disease have a high risk of benzodiazepine use leading to a higher exposure than recommended. Prescribers should be aware of the need to comply with the recommendations, especially in these patients who are the most frail and vulnerable to adverse events.

Farm Animal Behaviour and Husbandry Section, Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, University of Kassel, Witzenhausen, Germany.

In commercial dairy farming, the majority of cows are dehorned or genetically hornless. It is argued that this reduces the risk of injurious and stressful social conflicts. On the other hand, in horned herds, management and housing may be better adapted to the cows, e.

Globally, the transport sector is a major contributor to air pollution. Currently, in the UK, vehicle emissions contribute significant amounts of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) pollution in urban areas. Low-emission-zone policies have been used as an intervention to tackle air pollution, and in this context, the UK launched the Low-Traffic Neighbourhood scheme.

Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections, and appropriate antimicrobial therapy with agents that minimise resistance is crucial. Despite international concern, adherence to guidelines is still suboptimal. This study aims to determine the effect of the absence of national guidelines and the rate of conformity to international guidelines among physicians in antibiotic (ATB) prescriptions for the treatment of UTIs in adults and detect the factors that are associated with a higher rate of non-compliance.

Objective: This expert opinion presents provisional guidelines for addressing complications associated with Additively Manufactured Subperiosteal Jaw Implants (AMSJI®) in patients with severe maxillary atrophy. AMSJI®'s custom design, supported by finite element analysis (FEA), allows precise placement that avoids critical anatomical structures and minimizes complications relative to alternative solutions.

Materials And Methods: Data were gathered through firsthand experiences, direct communications, two structured surveys and insights from international workgroup meetings.
