The spatial and spectral topography of the cone mosaic set the limits for detection and discrimination of chromatic sinewave gratings. Here, we sought to compare the spatial characteristics of mechanisms mediating hue perception against those mediating chromatic detection in individuals with known spectral topography and with optical aberrations removed with adaptive optics. Chromatic detection sensitivity in general exceeded previous measurements and decreased monotonically for increasingly skewed cone spectral compositions. The spatial grain of hue perception was significantly coarser than chromatic detection, consistent with separate neural mechanisms for color vision operating at different spatial scales.

The authentication of Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (ZSS), Ziziphi Mauritianae Semen (ZMS), and Hovenia Acerba Semen (HAS) has become challenging. The chromatic and textural properties of ZSS, ZMS, and HAS are analyzed in this study. Color features were extracted via RGB, CIELAB, and HSI spaces, whereas texture information was analyzed via the gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) and Law's texture feature analysis.

Using the solid-state reaction technique, varied YSiO phosphors activated by europium (Eu) ions at varied concentrations were made at calcination temperatures of 1000 °C and 1250 °C during sintering in an air environment. The XRD technique identified the monoclinic structure, and the FTIR technique was used to analyze the generated phosphors. Photoluminescence emission and excitation patterns were measured using varying concentrations of Eu ions.

This study elucidated the radiation response characteristics of a Gafchromic radiochromic film subjected to low photon doses of ≤50 mSv, which corresponds to the annual whole body effective dose limit for radiation workers in Canada. Radiochromic films are investigated for possible use as a complementary tool for the Canadian Armed Forces that can be worn in addition to their existing personal dosimetry to quickly assess personal radiation dose received from radiological hazards without reliance on electronics. The films were exposed to varying photon energies emanating from x-ray generators and radioisotopes, specifically cesium-137, cobalt-60, and americium-241.

Single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy offers unique capabilities for the low-concentration sensing and probing of molecular dynmics. However, employing such a methodology for versatile sensing and diagnostics under point-of-care demands device miniaturization to lab-on-a-chip size. In this study, we numerically design metalenses with high numerical aperture (NA = 1.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of varying weight ratios of Shuanla and Erjingtiao peppers (10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6, 2:8, and 0:10, corresponding to samples PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, and PG, respectively) on the sensory attributes, chromatism, acid values (AVs), peroxide values (POVs), capsaicinoids, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of seven chili oil samples. GC-IMS was employed to detect the VOCs of the chili oil samples, which were subsequently analyzed using multivariate statistical methods. The results revealed significant differences in pungency among the samples, with the PA sample exhibiting the strongest pungency.
