The ADNMED (Anaerobic Digestion, Nitrification, and Mixotrophic Endogenous Denitrification) system comprises a triple chamber configuration that was shown to provide high-quality effluent regarding carbon, nitrogen, and sulfide. Hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 7 h in the anaerobic and anoxic chambers, and 5 h in the aerobic chamber (stage A). Sewage was directly added to the anoxic chamber to provide extra organic electron donors for denitrification (stage B) to improve the nitrogen removal efficiency (stage A 47 ± 19%). The addition of sewage at a flow rate equivalent to 10% of the feed flow increased nitrogen removal efficiency to 61 ± 12%. Illumina® sequencing revealed a restructuring of the microbial community in the anoxic chamber, according to the availability of the endogenous electron donors for denitrification. At stage A, denitrification was related to the decay of biomass, while the addition of sewage during stage B stimulated the establishment of fermentative bacteria.

Chiral allyl amines are important structural components in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and chiral catalysts. Herein, we report a cobalt-catalyzed enantioselective reductive coupling of imines with internal alkynes to synthesize chiral allyl amines. The reaction is catalyzed by a cobalt complex derived from commercially available bisphosphine ligand utilizing zinc as the electron donor.

The first carbocyclic gallylene [(ADC)Ga(GaI)] and bis-gallylene [(ADC)Ga] (ADC = PhC{N(Dipp)C}; Dipp = 2,6-iPrCH) featuring a central CGa ring annulated between two 1,3-imidazole rings are prepared by KC reductions of [(ADC)GaI]. Treatment of [(ADC)Ga] with Fe(CO) affords complex [(ADC)GaFe(CO)] in which each Ga(i) atom serves as a two-electron donor. [(ADC)Ga] activates white phosphorus (P) and the C -F bond of aryl fluorides (ArF) to yield compounds [(ADC)Ga(P)] and -/-[(ADC)GaF(Ar)], respectively.

Naphthalenediimide (NDI)-based donor-acceptor co-polymers with tunable electronic, optical, mechanical, and transport properties have shown immense potential as n-type conducting polymers in organic (opto)electronics. During the operation, the polymers undergo reduction at different charged states, which alters their (opto)electronic properties mainly due to the formation of the quasiparticles, polaron/bipolaron. The theoretical study based on quantum mechanical calculations can provide us with a detailed understanding of their (opto)electronic properties, which is missing to a great extent.

Biomethanation is a crucial process occurring in natural and engineered systems which can reduce carbon dioxide to methane impacting the global carbon cycle. However, little is known about the effect of on-and-off gaseous provision and micronutrients on bioconversion. Here, anaerobic microbiomes underwent intermittent feeding with incremental starvations and selective metal supplementation to assess the impact of hydrogen and carbon dioxide availability on microbial physiology.

In recent years, it has become widely acknowledged that heavy metals are often present in oil-contaminated sites. This study utilized three specific types of microorganisms with different functions to construct a composite bacterial consortium for treating lubricant-Cr(VI) composite pollutants. The selected strains were Lysinbacillus fusiformis and Bacillus tropicus.
