Background/aim: The adenocarcinoma (ADC) and other malignant neoplasm (OMN) terminologies of The Bethesda System represent various histological types of uterine and extrauterine malignancies. This study aimed to clarify the incidences of ADC not otherwise specified (ADC-NOS), ADC extrauterine (ADC-EXT), and OMN in our institution and describe their characteristic cytomorphological features.

Patients And Methods: We searched the database to identify all patients diagnosed with carcinoma, including those diagnosed through cervical liquid-based cytology (LBC), between January 2019 and December 2023.

A parasitic leiomyoma of the sigmoid mesentery with schwannoma-like image findings.

Department of Surgery, International Goodwill Hospital, 1-28-1, Nishigaoka, Izumi-Ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa, 245-0006, Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • Parasitic leiomyoma (PL) are uterine fibroids that grow outside the uterus in areas like the peritoneum, often complicating diagnosis due to varied imaging results, especially after procedures like laparoscopic myomectomies.
  • A 29-year-old woman, who previously underwent laparoscopic myomectomy, was diagnosed with a mesenteric tumor through imaging that initially suggested it could be schwannoma, highlighting the ambiguity of PL identification in such cases.
  • The case concludes that PL should be considered in mesenteric tumor diagnoses following laparoscopic myomectomy, regardless of whether typical imaging features of uterine fibroids are present, due to its potential to mimic other tumors like schwannomas.

Extrauterine endometrial stromal sarcoma (EESS) is extremely rare, especially with the colorectum involvement. We describe 18 F-FDG PET/CT findings of EESS in the sigmoid colon and rectum in a 46-year-old woman who complained diarrhea. 18 F-FDG PET/CT revealed multiple hypermetabolic lesions in the abdomen and pelvis, including the sigmoid colon and rectum.
