Double-sided Fresnel zone plates are diffractive lenses used for high-resolution hard X-ray microscopy. The double-sided structures have significantly higher aspect ratios compared with single-sided components and hence enable more efficient imaging. The zone plates discussed in this paper are fabricated on each side of a thin support membrane, and the alignment of the zone plates with respect to each other is critical. Here, a simple and reliable way of quantifying misalignments by recording efficiency maps and measuring the absolute diffraction efficiency of the zone plates as a function of tilting angle in two directions is presented. The measurements are performed in a setup based on a tungsten-anode microfocus X-ray tube, providing an X-ray energy of 8.4 keV through differential measurements with a Cu and an Ni filter. This study investigates the sources of the misalignments and concludes that they can be avoided by decreasing the structure heights on both sides of the membrane and by pre-programming size differences between the front- and back-side zone plates.

Evaluation of sticky bone in guided bone regeneration in the aesthetic area of the anterior teeth: a retrospective study.

The retrospective study aimed to compare the space-maintaining effects of sticky bone (bone graft matrix enriched with injectable platelet-rich fibrin) and titanium mesh for bone augmentation in the aesthetic zone. Patients who underwent single implant placement and had type 2/4 alveolar bone defects (buccal bone wall loss is >50% of the expected implant length) were screened for inclusion in this study. The labial bone plate width was measured at 1, 3, and 5 mm below the apical implant platform on cone beam computed tomography images taken immediately and 6 months after surgery.

The practical implementation of terahertz (THz) imaging and spectroscopic systems in real operational conditions requires them to be of a compact size, to have enhanced functionality, and to be user-friendly. This work demonstrates the single-sided integration of Fresnel-zone-plate-based optical elements with InGaAs bow-tie diodes directly on a semiconductor chip. Numerical simulations were conducted to optimize the Fresnel zone plate's focal length and the InP substrate's thickness to achieve constructive interference at 600 GHz, room-temperature operation and achieve a sensitivity more than an order of magnitude higher-up to 24.

Composite materials play a crucial role in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, and shipbuilding. These materials differ from traditional metals due to their high specific strength and low weight, which reduce energy consumption in these industries. The damage behavior of such materials, especially when subjected to stress discontinuities such as central holes, differs significantly from materials without holes.

The return of stagnant slab recorded by intraplate volcanism.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

State Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics, Department of Geology, Northwest University, Xi'an 710069, China.

Subducted plates often stagnate in the mantle transition zone (MTZ), and the fate of the stagnant slabs is still debatable. They may sink into the lower mantle, or remain partially trapped in the MTZ, but it is uncertain whether they can return to the upper mantle. We report geochemical evidence of late-Miocene (~6 Ma) basalts from, and upper mantle seismic evidence beneath Shuangyashan, an area above the slab tear of the stagnant Pacific plate in eastern Asia, to show how the slab returns to the upper mantle from the MTZ.

Unlabelled: The persistent challenge posed by antibiotic-resistant bacteria and tuberculosis necessitates innovative approaches to antimicrobial treatment. This study explores the synthesis and characterization of NiZrO₃ nanoparticles integrated with graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), using a microwave-assisted green synthesis route, employing fenugreek () seed extract as a gelling agent. The synthesised nanocomposites were systematically analyzed using XRD, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, HR-SEM and HR TEM analysis to assess structural, optical, and morphological properties.
