The correlation between Fischer's ratio and the risk of cardiac dysfunction in heart failure patients.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

December 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Rui Jin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200025, People's Republic of China.

Backgrounds: Due to the high mortality and hospitalization rate in chronic heart failure (HF), it is of great significance to study myocardial nutrition conditions. Amino acids (AAs) are essential nutrient metabolites for cell development and survival. This study aims to investigate the associations and prognostic value of plasma branched-chain amino acid/aromatic amino acid ratio (Fischer's ratio, FR) in patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 50%.

Controllable Growth of Monolayer and Bilayer WSe by Liquid-Phase Precursor via Chemical Vapor Deposition for Photodetection.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

School of Flexible Electronics (Future Technologies), Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM), Nanjing Tech University (NanjingTech), 30 South Puzhu Road, Nanjing 211816, China.

Two-dimensional WSe nanosheets have received increasing attention due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. Solid precursors, such as WO and Se powders, have been extensively employed to grow WSe nanosheets by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. However, the high melting point of WO results in heterogeneous nucleation sites and nonuniform growth of the WSe nanosheet.

Currently, the 'gold standard' for diagnosis of Psoroptes ovis infections is detecting Psoroptes mites or eggs in skin scrapings under microscopy, but it is prone to be mis-diagnosed for detecting early infection of P. ovis. Hence, seeking a reliable diagnostic technique for detecting early-stage mite infections is extremely desirable.

Graphene oxide (GO), renowned for its two-dimensional structure and exceptional fluorescence quenching capabilities, is a preferred choice for the construction of fluorescence biosensors. As the sensitivity demands for these sensors escalate, enhancing the fluorescence quenching performance of GO and reducing background fluorescence become paramount to optimize the sensor sensitivity. In this study, the use of cold plasma (CP) treatment with glucose solution as a reducing agent to refine GO into reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) with optimal fluorescence quenching abilities was explored.

Characterizing the size, structure, and composition of nanoparticles is vital in predicting and understanding their macroscopic properties. In this work, charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) was used to analyze nanocapsules (∼10-200 MDa) consisting of a liquid oleic acid core surrounded by a dense silica outer shell. CDMS is an emerging method for nanoparticle analysis that can rapidly measure the mass and charge of thousands of individual nanoparticles.
