The iron(ii) complex bearing the 2,2':6',2'':6'',2''':6''',2''''-quinquepyridine (qnpy) ligand, [Fe(qnpy)(HO)], is a highly efficient and robust catalyst for photocatalytic reduction of CO to CO in aqueous acetonitrile solution. A turnover number (TON) for CO of up to 14 095 with 98% selectivity can be achieved using Ru(phen)Cl (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) as the photosensitizer and BIH (1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole) as the sacrificial reductant in a CO-saturated MeCN/HO (1 : 1, v/v) solution under visible light irradiation. This Fe complex is state-of-the-art for CO visible-light-driven catalysis.

Photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide (CO) to fuel provides an ideal pathway to achieving carbon neutrality. One significant hindrance in achieving the reduction of CO to higher energy density multicarbon products (C) was the difficulty in coupling C-C bonds efficiently. Copper (Cu) is considered the most suitable metal catalyst for C-C coupling to form C products in the CO reduction reaction (CORR), but it encounters challenges such as low product selectivity and slow catalytic efficiency.

In this work, Pt single atoms (SAs) were engineered on the surface of CdInS (CIS) to trigger abundant generation and stable existence of sulfur vacancies (S). Through quasi in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and work function analysis, the photogenerated electrons are first captured by Pt SAs and S, and then transferred from Pt SAs to S, ultimately increasing the electron density of S. Meanwhile, S have significant advantages in adsorbing CO molecules.

Herein, we first report a photocatalytic OCM using CO2 as a soft oxidant for C2H6 production under mild conditions, where an efficient photocatalyst with unique interface sites is constructed to facilitate CO2 adsorption and activation, while concurrently boosting CH4 dissociation. As a prototype, the Au quantum dots anchored on oxygen-deficient TiO2 nanosheets are fabricated, where the Au-Vo-Ti interface sites for CO2 adsorption and activation are collectively disclosed by in situ Kelvin probe force microscopy, quasi in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. Compared with single metal site, the Au-Vo-Ti interface sites exhibit the lower CO2 adsorption energy and decrease the energy barrier of the *CO2 hydrogenation step from 1.

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Biological Colloids, Ministry of Education, School of Chemical and Material Engineering, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, 214122, China.

Diatomic catalysts enhance photocatalytic CO reduction through synergistic effects. However, precisely regulating the distance between two catalytic centers to achieve synergistic catalysis poses significant challenges. In this study, a series of one-dimensional (1D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are designed with adjustable micropores to facilitate efficient CO photoreduction.
