Purpose: Research applying electroencephalography (EEG) to Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is still limited, even though in other psychiatric disorders EEG has permitted to find out the hallmarks of the disorder. The aim of the study was to explore whether EEG basal activity and reactivity to musical stimulation differ in participants with AN as compared to healthy subjects (HS).
Methods: Twenty female participants (respectively 10 with AN and 10 healthy controls) were administered a battery of psychometric tests and underwent EEG under three different conditions: (1) at baseline; (2) after a generic music stimulation; and (3) after a favorite musical stimulation.
Results: In participants with AN, basal EEG showed the higher absolute amplitude of cortical slow waves (theta) in the parieto-occipital and temporal derivations, with a deficit in the beta band. In AN, there was a higher N100 latency and a reduced P300 latency compared to HS. While the N100 and P300 latencies were sensitive to the musical stimulus in HS, there was no difference after music stimulation in AN.
Conclusion: These data suggest that AN is accompanied by a state of brain hyperarousal with abnormal reactivity to environmental stimuli, similar to the state of HS after musical stimulation. If confirmed, this finding may have treatment implications.

Background: Extensive research indicates a link between gut microbiota dysbiosis and psychiatric disorders. However, the causal relationships between gut microbiota and different types of psychiatric disorders, as well as whether inflammatory factors mediate these relationships, remain unclear.
Methods: We utilized summary statistics from the largest genome-wide association studies to date for gut microbiota (n = 18,340 in MiBioGen consortium), circulating inflammatory factors (n = 8293 for 41 factors and n = 14,824 for 91 factors in GWAS catalog), and six major psychiatric disorders from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC): attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, n = 38,691), anxiety disorder (ANX, n = 2248), bipolar disorder (BIP, n = 41,917), anorexia nervosa (AN, n = 16,992), schizophrenia (SCZ, n = 36,989), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD, n = 18,381).

This study examined laxative and substance use in adults with an eating disorder, and the association with depression, compulsions, and obsessions. A retrospective chart review of 182 women who had a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder and were receiving specialized outpatient treatment was conducted. The chart review included questionnaires completed at intake assessment, including a demographic survey with questions asking about laxative use, substance use, and the types of substances used.

ECHOMANTRA is a novel online intervention based on interventions for carers (Experienced Carers Helping Others, ECHO) and patients (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults, MANTRA) with anorexia nervosa.
