A novel coumarin-derived acylhydrazone Schiff base fluorescent organogel (G) was designed and synthesized. Gelator G can form stable organogels in isopropanol, tert-amyl alcohol, n-butanol and phenylamine. The organogel could be converted to solution by heating and the solution could be restored to gel state by cooling. The self-assemble mechanism of G1 was investigated by XRD, FT-IR and SEM techniques. The results indicated the intermolecular hydrogen bonding, Van der Waals interaction and π-π stacking are the forces for the self-assembly of the gelator to form the organogel. The optical properties of the compound were studied by UV-visible spectroscopy and fluorescence spectra. Further study presented that gelator G1 could selectively and sensitively response to Fe only among tested cations. Beside the above functions, the organic gel factor G1 could also response to irradiation, heating and shaking, thus endowing the organogel with multi stimulus responsive properties.

In order to facilitate the practical application of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) active molecules, the CPL brightness () must be optimized. We have applied a binary modular strategy to synthesize two chiral organo-Tb complexes, [Tb(Coum)(1,2-Ph-PyBox)] () and [Tb(Coum)(1,2-Ph-PyBox)] (), combining 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-coumarin () and enantiopure 2,6-bis(4-phenyl-2-oxazolin-2-yl) pyridine (,/,). The photophysical properties of these novel complexes have been fully characterized.

Cysteine (Cys) as a crucial precursor for intracellular glutathione (GSH) synthesis, plays an important role in the redox regulation in ferroptosis, Therefore, evaluating intracellular Cys levels is worthy to better understand ferroptosis-related physiological process. In this work, we constructed a novel NIR coumarin-derived fluorescent probe (NCDFP-Cys) based on a dual-ICT system, the NCDFP-Cys can show fluorescence turn-on response at 717 nm toward Cys over other amino acids, and possess large Stokes shift (Δλ = 167 nm), low detection limit, hypotoxicity. More significantly, NCDFP-Cys has been utilized to monitor the intracellular Cys fluctuation in pancreatic cancer cells during ferroptosis induced by Erastin and RSL3 respectively, and revealing the difference of Cys levels changes in different activator-triggered ferroptosis pathways.
