We report on investigation, by correlated polarized excitation fluorescence microscopy (PEFM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging, of the conformational order of regiorandom poly(3-hexyl-thiophene) (rra-P3HT) aggregated on two boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) materials (BNNT-2 and BNNT-3) processed by different purification methods. rra-P3HT photoluminescence excited by linearly polarized light shows polarization direction-dependent intensity with a modulation depth, , generally >0.5 for rra-P3HT on nanotubes and <0.5 for rra-P3HT on nontubular impurities. PEFM-measured modulation depth value distributions can be decomposed into two components, one corresponding to ordered rra-P3HT on nanotubes and the other to disordered rra-P3HT on impurities. The nanotube component peaks at = 0.64 and 0.70 and comprises 60% and 78% of the normalized distribution for rra-P3HT on BNNT-2 and BNNT-3, respectively, indicating higher quality and higher fraction of nanotubes in the latter material. The method can be integrated in a material development platform to monitor production and purification progress.

The abnormally viscous and thick mucus is a hallmark of cystic fibrosis (CF). How the mutated CF gene causes abnormal mucus remains an unanswered question of paramount interest. Mucus is produced by the hydration of gel-forming mucin macromolecules that are stored in intracellular granules prior to release.

Pomegranate peel polyphenols (PPP) are natural compounds known for their various biological activities; however, they are easily degraded by environmental conditions, leading to a reduction in their biological activity and health benefits. Therefore, improving the stability of PPP is a critical question that needs to be addressed. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of five common microcapsule wall materials-carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMCNa), sodium alginate (SA), gum Arabic (GA), beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD), and hydroxypropyl starch (HPS)-in encapsulating PPP to enhance its stability and antioxidant activity.

Due to the larger pore structure, the macroporous material can be used as the immobilized carrier to not only increase the enzyme loading capacity, but also facilitate the transfer of reactants and substrates. Based on this, a three-dimensional ordered macro-microporous ZIF-8 (SOM-ZIF-8) was prepared using three-dimensional ordered stacked polystyrene spheres as the hard template. The morphology and structure of SOM-ZIF-8 were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and so on.

Understanding the nature of π-stacking interactions is important to molecular recognition, self-assembly, and organic semiconductors. The stack bond order (SBO) model of π-stacking has shown that the conformations of dimers are found at orientations where the combinations of monomer MOs are overall bonding within the stack. DFT calculations show that parallel displaced minima found on the potential energy surface for the π-stacked dimers of pentacene and perfluoropentacene occur when the dimer MOs are constructed from combinations of monomer MOs with an allowed SBO.

In this work we present a minimal structure-based model of protein diffusional search along local DNA amid protein binding and unbinding events on the DNA, taking into account protein-DNA electrostatic interactions and hydrogen-bonding (HB) interactions or contacts at the interface. We accordingly constructed the protein diffusion-association/dissociation free energy surface and mapped it to 1D as the protein slides along DNA, maintaining the protein-DNA interfacial HB contacts that presumably dictate the DNA sequence information detection. Upon DNA helical path correction, the protein 1D diffusion rates along local DNA can be physically derived to be consistent with experimental measurements.
