Paternal environmental factors can epigenetically influence gene expressions in offspring. We demonstrate that restraint stress, an experimental model for strong psychological stress, to fathers affects the epigenome, transcriptome, and metabolome of offspring in a MEKK1-dATF2 pathway-dependent manner in Drosophila melanogaster. Genes involved in amino acid metabolism are upregulated by paternal restraint stress, while genes involved in glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle are downregulated. The effects of paternal restraint stress are also confirmed by metabolome analysis. dATF-2 is highly expressed in testicular germ cells, and restraint stress also induces p38 activation in the testes. Restraint stress induces Unpaired 3 (Upd3), a Drosophila homolog of Interleukin 6 (IL-6). Moreover, paternal overexpression of upd3 in somatic cells disrupts heterochromatin in offspring but not in offspring from dATF-2 mutant fathers. These results indicate that paternal restraint stress affects metabolism in offspring via inheritance of dATF-2-dependent epigenetic changes.

: Yeokwisan (YWS) is a standardised herbal formula for relieving functional dyspepsia symptoms. : We explored the therapeutic value of YWS and its potential effects on gastritis. Its inhibitory effect on gastric mucosal damage and anti-inflammatory activity in animal models of alcohol- and restraint stress-induced gastritis were also examined.

Alkali-silica reaction (ASR) is an important factor that seriously affects the durability of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. The current research on alkali-aggregate mainly focuses on the deterioration mechanism of materials and the mechanical properties of standard specimens. However, there is a gap in the field of research on the effect of alkali-aggregate damage on the level of RC structures.

Post-translational modifications of proteins via palmitoylation, a thioester linkage of a 16-carbon fatty acid to a cysteine residue, reversibly increases their affinity for cholesterol-rich lipid rafts in membranes, changing their function. Little is known about how altered palmitoylation affects function at the systemic level and contributes to CNS pathology. However, recent studies suggested a role for the downregulation of palmitoyl acetyltransferase (DHHC) 21 gene expression in the development of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)-like syndrome.

Autonomous driving technology has led to an increasing preference for rearward seating postures. However, current restraint systems exhibit significant shortcomings in protecting reclined occupants. In this paper, based on the existing restraint system components, various restraint strategies were configured to enhance the protection for reclined occupants.

Background: There is a high rate of depressive symptoms such as irritability, anhedonia, fatigue, and hypersomnia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the causes and underlying mechanisms of the comorbidity of depression and diabetes remain unknown.
Methods: For the first time, we identified Decidual protein induced by progesterone 1 (Depp1), also known as DEPP autophagy regulator 1, as a hub gene in both depression and T2DM models.
