This research investigated the technological and safety effects of the nisin Z producer subsp. CBM 21, tested as an adjunct culture for the making of Squacquerone cheese in a pilot-scale plant. The biocontrol agent remained at a high level throughout the cheese refrigerated storage, without having a negative influence on the viability of the conventional starter. The inclusion of CBM 21 in Squacquerone cheesemaking proved to be more effective compared to the traditional one, to reduce total coliforms and spp. Moreover, the novel/innovative adjunct culture tested did not negatively modify the proteolytic patterns of Squacquerone cheese, but it gave rise to products with specific volatile and texture profiles. The cheese produced with CBM 21 was more appreciated by the panelists with respect to the traditional one.

Background: Periodontitis is not always satisfactorily treated with conventional scaling and root planing, and adjunctive use of antibiotics is required in clinical practice. Therefore, it is important for clinicians to understand the diversity and the antibiotic resistance of subgingival microbiota when exposed to different antibiotics.
Materials And Methods: In this study, subgingival plaques were collected from 10 periodontitis patients and 11 periodontally healthy volunteers, and their microbiota response to selective pressure of four antibiotics (amoxicillin, metronidazole, clindamycin, and tetracycline) were evaluated through 16S rRNA gene amplicon and metagenomic sequencing analysis.

Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have emerged as a promising non-pharmacological adjunct to neurorehabilitation. Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) exhibit altered cortical excitability, and while CP remains incurable, physiotherapy combined with other interventions is essential for managing motor dysfunction. Although some studies have examined NIBS using various stimulation parameters, there is limited evidence regarding its effects on the lower extremities and optimal administration protocols.

Diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis is typically aided through CSF analysis obtained via lumbar puncture (LP), revealing elevated WBCs, increased protein, decreased glucose, and increased opening pressure. While CSF culture confirms the diagnosis, it takes days, prompting reliance on these adjuncts. AIDS from Human Immunodeficiency Virus is less commonly diagnosed in the emergency setting due to advances in testing and treatment.

The management of patients with overlapping asthma and bronchiectasis requires a tailored approach, starting with a comprehensive assessment of the patient's clinical profile, including the severity of asthma and the extent of bronchiectasis. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are often recommended, but their use should be carefully monitored because of the risk of increased infection. If the asthma is well controlled and the bronchiectasis remains stable, a gradual reduction in the dose of ICS may be considered.

Aim: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of ozonated sunflower oil (Oz) as an adjunctive of non-surgical periodontal therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), on fibroblast cell viability and migration and the effectiveness of Oz on a Candida albicans (C. albicans) culture.
Methodology: In total, 32 sites in 16 DM2 with moderate to advanced periodontal disease with periodontal pocket depths ≥5mm were selected.
