Introduction: Chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) is a rare myeloproliferative syndrome characterized by a significant increase in mature neutrophils. One of the most serious complications is the occurrence of bleeding events, which may sometimes lead to death.

Case Report: A 75-year-old patient presented with CNL, complicated by a severe bleeding phenotype. Biological investigations revealed platelet function defect and increase in neutrophil elastase. The follow-up was marked by an intracranial hemorrhage leading to the patient's death 7 months after diagnosis.

Conclusion: This bleeding phenotype has been reported several times in patients with CNL. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms that cause bleeding are not yet fully understood.

The modern use of hydroxyurea for children with sickle cell anemia.

Over the past 40 years, the introduction and refinement of hydroxyurea therapy has led to remarkable progress for the care of individuals with sickle cell anemia (SCA). From initial small proof-of-principle studies to multi-center Phase 3 controlled clinical trials and then numerous open-label studies, the consistent benefits of once-daily oral hydroxyurea have been demonstrated across the lifespan. Elevated fetal hemoglobin (HbF) serves as the most important treatment response, as HbF delays sickle hemoglobin polymerization and reduces erythrocyte sickling.

β-Glucan reprograms neutrophils to promote disease tolerance against influenza A virus.

Disease tolerance is an evolutionarily conserved host defense strategy that preserves tissue integrity and physiology without affecting pathogen load. Unlike host resistance, the mechanisms underlying disease tolerance remain poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated whether an adjuvant (β-glucan) can reprogram innate immunity to provide protection against influenza A virus (IAV) infection.

Macrophages and Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Most chronic respiratory diseases often lead to the clinical manifestation of pulmonary fibrosis. Inflammation and immune disorders are widely recognized as primary contributors to the onset of pulmonary fibrosis. Given that macrophages are predominantly responsible for inflammation and immune disorders, in this review, we first focused on the role of different subpopulations of macrophages in the lung and discussed the crosstalk between macrophages and other immune cells, such as neutrophils, regulatory T cells, NKT cells, and B lymphocytes during pulmonary fibrogenesis.

Aims: In cystic fibrosis lung transplant recipients (LTRs), graft dysfunction due to acute infections, rejection or chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) is difficult to distinguish. Characterisation of the airway inflammatory milieu could help detect and prevent graft dysfunction. We speculated that an eosinophil or neutrophil-rich milieu is associated with higher risk of CLAD.

Introduction: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a common complication of herpes zoster (HZ). This study aimed to use a large real-world electronic medical records database to determine the optimal machine learning model for predicting the progression to severe PHN and to identify the associated risk factors.

Methods: We analyzed the electronic medical records of 23,326 patients diagnosed with HZ from January 2010 to June 2020.
