The development of methods to synthesize and study the properties of dark titania is of the utmost interest due to prospects for its use, primarily in photocatalysis when excited by visible light. In this work, the dark titania powder was prepared by pulsed laser ablation (Nd:YAG laser, 1064 nm, 7 ns) in water and dried in air. To study the changes occurring in the material, the thermal treatment was applied. The structure, composition, and properties of the obtained powders were studied using transmission electron microscopy, low-temperature N adsorption/desorption, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry/differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray photoelectron, Raman and UV-vis spectroscopies, and photoluminescence methods. The processes occurring in the initial material upon heating were studied. The electronic structure of the semiconductor materials was investigated, and the nature of the defects providing the visible light absorption was revealed. The photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of the materials obtained were also studied. Dark titania obtained via laser ablation in liquid was found to exhibit catalytic activity in the phenol photodegradation process under visible light (> 420 nm) and showed antibacterial activity against and bacteriostatic effect towards

Background: Endodontic treatment aims in the preservation of extremely carious primary teeth. For root canal therapy to be successful, root canals must be properly prepared and effectively irrigated .Therefore, it is necessary to select the proper root canal disinfection method to preserve the primary tooth.

Remote photobiomodulation ameliorates behavioral and neuropathological outcomes in a rat model of repeated closed head injury.

Repeated closed-head injuries (rCHI) from activities like contact sports, falls, military combat, and traffic accidents pose a serious risk due to their cumulative impact on the brain. Often, rCHI is not diagnosed until symptoms of irreversible brain damage appear, highlighting the need for preventive measures. This study assessed the prophylactic efficacy of remote photobiomodulation (PBM) targeted at the lungs against rCHI-induced brain injury and associated behavioral deficits.

Hypoxic tumors present a significant challenge in cancer therapy due to their ability to adaptation in low-oxygen environments, which supports tumor survival and resistance to treatment. Enhanced mitophagy, the selective degradation of mitochondria by autophagy, is a crucial mechanism that helps sustain cellular homeostasis in hypoxic tumors. In this study, we develop an azocalix[4]arene-modified supramolecular albumin nanoparticle, that co-delivers hydroxychloroquine and a mitochondria-targeting photosensitizer, designed to induce cascaded oxidative stress by regulating mitophagy for the treatment of hypoxic tumors.

Purpose: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease, in which T-Lymphocytes induce apoptosis of basal keratinocytes, leading to the formation of symptomatic lesions. It is assumed that blocking the cell death program and enhancing cell proliferation would be crucial to the healing process. The aim of the study was to verify the efficacy of Photobiomodulation (PBM) in OLP management, by evaluating the effects of laser irradiation on the processes of apoptosis and cell proliferation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) combined with mechanical debridement (MD) in treating peri-implantitis in patients undergoing chemotherapy compared to systemically healthy patients.
  • Both patient groups were assessed; however, results showed no significant differences in key measurements (plaque and gingival indices, probing depth, and bone loss) between the two groups at both baseline and three-month follow-up.
  • Overall, the findings indicated that adding aPDT to MD did not lead to enhanced treatment outcomes for peri-implantitis in either chemotherapy patients or systemically healthy individuals.
