Objective: This study aimed to compare the smile attractiveness after non-extraction treatment with self-ligating and rapid maxillary expansion (RME), to compare it to a control group treat with conventional fixed appliances and to evaluate the influence of buccal and posterior corridor areas in smile aesthetics.
Settings And Sample Population: The sample consisted of frontal posed smile photographs of patients treated with self-ligating and conventional appliances with and without RME.
Material And Methods: G1-treated with Damon self-ligating system (n = 20), G2-treated with RME and conventional fixed appliances (n = 22) and G3-treated only with conventional fixed appliances (n = 20). A website was created to provide an easy and quick evaluation of the smiles. The evaluators consisted of 70 orthodontists and 55 laypeople. Buccal and posterior corridors areas of each photograph were delimited in Photoshop CS3 and measured in AutoCAD in proportion to the total smile area. One- and two-way ANOVA were used for intergroup comparisons, and correlations were investigated with Pearson's correlation coefficient.
Results: There were no significant intergroup differences in smile attractiveness and in buccal and posterior corridor areas. There was no significant correlation between corridor areas and smile attractiveness.
Conclusions: Smile attractiveness and areas of buccal and posterior corridors were similar in groups treated with self-ligating and conventional appliances with and without rapid maxillary expansion.

Objective: To evaluate the ideal anteroposterior position of incisors in lateral smiling profiles with different chin prominences and to relate these positions to nose and chin landmarks based on the perceptions of orthodontists and laypersons.
Methods: A lateral smiling profile image of a female subject was adjusted to create five levels of chin prominence (-6, -3, 0, +3, +6 mm). For each level, the anteroposterior positions of the maxillary incisors were adjusted across five positions (-4, -2, 0, +2, +4 mm).

Background: Soft tissue specifications and facial values vary depending on the underlying skeletal structures. To achieve the ideal treatment result and patient satisfaction, one must know the attractive soft tissue specifications compatible with each type of malocclusion. This study aims to analyze the facial measurements that contribute to perceived facial attractiveness in patients with vertical growth patterns and skeletal class I malocclusion, focusing on gender-specific differences.

Statement Of Problem: Esthetic dental features, especially the maxillary anterior teeth, significantly influence perceived attractiveness. Gingival recessions can negatively affect smile esthetics, particularly when asymmetrical.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the perception of dentists and non-professionals regarding subtle variations in the apically displaced soft tissue surrounding a lateral or central incisor.

An understanding of the features of a smile is important for dental diagnosis and treatment planning. The common methods of smile analysis rely on the visual analysis of smile aesthetics using posed photographs, and videos and gathering information about smiles through patient questionnaires and diaries.
