During August 2016-July 2017, Arkansas experienced a large mumps (parotitis) outbreak; however, mumps-negative cases of parotitis were also identified in this period. Nineteen of 215 samples (9%) randomly selected for influenza PCR testing were positive for influenza A virus. Practitioners should consider influenza as a cause of nonmumps parotitis.

Despite the availability of a highly efficacious vaccine, a global resurgence of measles infections has occurred, largely due to decreased vaccination coverage and waning immunity following the two-dose vaccination schedule. This study aims to assess the cellular immune response in individuals who did not respond to the two-dose MMR vaccine and evaluate the efficacy and durability of immune responses after booster doses. An observational study was conducted involving 24 individuals who were seronegative for measles years after completing the two-dose MMR vaccine schedule.

The controversy surrounding the safety of coronavirus disease-19 vaccinations is part of a larger historical backdrop of ongoing discussions regarding vaccine safety that have spanned several decades. The historical disputes around measles, mumps, rubella, and influenza highlight the recurring pattern in which public doubt is fueled by false information and personal stories. A 2024 multinational study in the journal presented preexisting safety indicators for myocarditis, pericarditis, Guillain - Barré syndrome, and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.

Mumps epidemics highlight the necessity for new live mumps vaccines. For vaccine candidate neurosafety assessment, the most commonly used test is the rat-based neurovirulence test (RNVT). Its main experimental and ethical deficiency is the results dispersion which requires large number of animals to obtain statistically relevant results.
