Published: July 1998

The coral genus is reviewed from Indonesia for the first time, following detailed collections made at 131 sites and additional material collected from approximately 40 sites throughout the archipelago during the period 1993-6. Eighty-three species are recorded, four of these ( and ) new to science, six first described in 1994 and six in 1997. Records are compared with specimen-based records from localities worldwide. The species of occurring in Indonesian waters include five recorded only from the Indian Ocean and Indonesia, seven recorded only from the Pacific Ocean, South China Sea and Indonesia, and a further 10 species apparently endemic to Indonesia, as well as widespread Indo-Pacific species. Two species ( Wallace, 1994 and Wallace, 1996) are recorded only from north central Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and two species ( Wallace, 1994 and Wallace, 1994) only from north central Indonesia and north western Australia. The findings contribute to a new view of the corals of the Indo-Pacific 'centre of diversity' as a composite fauna with origins in a number of events in space and time.

DSHEA 1994 - Celebrating 30 Years of Dietary Supplement Regulation in the United States.

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 defined the FDA's statutory authority to regulate dietary supplement products as a category of food in the United States. As we celebrate 30 years post-DSHEA, it is important to reflect on its significance for public health, influence on the continuously evolving and expanding product category, the current regulatory framework, and potential opportunities or modernizing oversight to ensure a strong and well-regulated marketplace. An estimated three-fourths of U.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous studies confirmed that the residual cancer burden (RCB) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy predicts long-term outcomes in breast cancer, leading to a pooled analysis to explore this relationship across various cancer subtypes.
  • The analysis involved data from 5161 patients across 12 institutes in Europe and the USA, focusing on their clinical characteristics and the impact of RCB on event-free survival rates.
  • Findings highlighted that RCB scores were significant across all breast cancer subtypes, with higher scores correlating to poorer event-free survival outcomes, indicating the importance of RCB in treatment prognosis.

Serum and Macular Carotenoids in Relation to Retinal Vessel Caliber Fifteen Years Later, in the Second Carotenoids in Age-Related Eye Disease Study.

July 2021

Department of Nutritional Sciences, College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, United States.

Purpose: We investigated whether dietary carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin (L/Z) in the serum and macula were associated with central retinal arteriole and venule calibers in a follow-up ancillary study among older women in the Women's Health Initiative.

Methods: Among 390 women who participated in Carotenoids in Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (CAREDS2) (2016-2019), we investigated associations between serum L/Z at Women's Health Initiative baseline (1994-1998), and macular pigment optical density (MPOD) at CAREDS baseline (2001-2004), with central retinal vessel caliber in CAREDS2. MPOD was measured using heterochromatic flicker photometry (0.
