The mouse bioassay for tetrodotoxin has been used in Japan and ddY strain mice are designated to be used in the assay. ddY strain is a closed-colony outbred mouse strain, originally from the National Institute of Health, however, the ddY mouse stocks of 3 breeders were divided 30 or more years ago. In this study, we investigated the differences in susceptibility to tetrodotoxin in ddY strain mice from 3 different breeders in Japan. No statistically significant differences were found among the ddY strain mice of 3 breeders, however, the coefficient of variation were different among the breeders. The results using the mice from one breeder were much stable compared with those using the mice from other 2 breeders.

Background: Tsumura-Suzuki non-obese (TSNO) mice exhibit a severe form of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with advanced liver fibrosis upon feeding a high-fat/cholesterol/cholate-based (iHFC) diet. Another ddY strain, Tsumura-Suzuki diabetes obese (TSOD) mice, are impaired in the progression of iHFC diet-induced MASH.

Aim: To elucidate the underlying mechanisms contributing to the differences in MASH progression between TSNO and TSOD mice.

Background: Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) were considered to be stem cells with limited potencies due to their existence in adult organisms. However, the production of spermatogonial stem cell colonies with broader differentiation capabilities in primary germ cell cultures from mice of select genetic backgrounds (C57BL6/Tg14, ddY, FVB and 129/Ola) indicated that SSCs from these strains were pluripotent.

Methods: We established primary cultures of SSCs from neonatal and adult Swiss 3T3 Albino mice.

The Aggressive Response Meter (ARM) has been validated for measuring emotional (psychotic) aggression triggered by mental irritation in mice. In the present article, we newly developed a device, pARM (PowerLab-compatible type ARM). We collected on the aggressive biting behavior (ABB) intensity and ABB frequency of 20 male and female mice of ddY strain studied over a period of 6 days by using pARM and the former ARM.

Mouse tissue glycome atlas 2022 highlights inter-organ variation in major N-glycan profiles.

This study presents "mouse tissue glycome atlas" representing the profiles of major N-glycans of mouse glycoproteins that may define their essential functions in the surface glycocalyx of mouse organs/tissues and serum-derived extracellular vesicles (exosomes). Cell surface glycocalyx composed of a variety of N-glycans attached covalently to the membrane proteins, notably characteristic "N-glycosylation patterns" of the glycocalyx, plays a critical role for the regulation of cell differentiation, cell adhesion, homeostatic immune response, and biodistribution of secreted exosomes. Given that the integrity of cell surface glycocalyx correlates significantly with maintenance of the cellular morphology and homeostatic immune functions, dynamic alterations of N-glycosylation patterns in the normal glycocalyx caused by cellular abnormalities may serve as highly sensitive and promising biomarkers.

Background: Equol, a metabolite of daidzein, binds to the estrogen receptor with greater affinity than daidzein and exhibits various biological properties. It exists as an enantiomer, either (S)-equol or (R)-equol.

Objectives: We have previously shown that the inhibitory effect of (S)-equol on bone fragility is stronger than that of racemic equol in ovariectomized (OVX) mice; however, the effect of (R)-equol has not been elucidated.
