Transplantation is the standard treatment for end-stage kidney disease but carries with it a non-trivial risk of post-operative complication. There is a need for a continuous, real-time, not additionally invasive method of monitoring organ perfusion. We present an approach to allograft perfusion monitoring using a human kidney model using normothermic perfusion (EVNP) and custom spectroscopic optical reflectance probes.

This article reviews epidermal barrier dysfunctions and more thoroughly discusses the stratum corneum (SC) permeability barrier, physiologic self-repair mechanisms in healthy skin, and the clinical and structural effects of an overstressed SC permeability barrier. Discussion includes epidermal barrier impairments induced by both exogenous exposures and endogenous factors such as specific dermatologic disorders. Due the plethora of skin care products on the market and the variability of their contents and vehicle formulations, this article addresses core concepts required to optimize skin care product selection, including for specific disease states such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne vulgaris, and rosacea.

Background: Limited literature is available to guide surgeons on which patients with insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) may be the best candidates for minimally invasive dorsal closing wedge calcaneal Zadek osteotomy (MIS ZO). We hypothesized that the severity of IAT on preoperative magnetic resonance image (MRI) may correlate with post-operative functional outcomes and help guide patient selection for treatment with MIS ZO.
Methods: Patients who underwent MIS ZO for IAT ± Haglund deformity were identified and retrospectively analyzed.

The integration of self-tracking instruments into therapy offers a promising approach to personalizing treatment. This feasibility pilot study develops and explores a preliminary self-tracking assisted treatment concept using a wearable self-tracking instrument called the One Button Tracker (OBT).
