Background: Data quality assessment presents a challenge for research using coded administrative health data. The objective of this study is to develop and validate a set of coding association rules for coded diagnostic data.

Methods: We used the Canadian re-abstracted hospital discharge abstract data coded in International Classification of Disease, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes. Association rule mining was conducted on the re-abstracted data in four age groups (0-4, 20-44, 45-64; ≥ 65) to extract ICD-10 coding association rules at the three-digit (category of diagnosis) and four-digit levels (category of diagnosis with etiology, anatomy, or severity). The rules were reviewed by a panel of 5 physicians and 2 classification specialists using a modified Delphi rating process. We proposed and defined the variance and bias to assess data quality using the rules.

Results: After the rule mining process and the panel review, 388 rules at the three-digit level and 275 rules at the four-digit level were developed. Half of the rules were from the age group of ≥65. Rules captured meaningful age-specific clinical associations, with rules at the age group of ≥65 being more complex and comprehensive than other age groups. The variance and bias can identify rules with high bias and variance in Alberta data and provides directions for quality improvement.

Conclusions: A set of ICD-10 data quality rules were developed and validated by a clinical and classification expert panel. The rules can be used as a tool to assess ICD-coded data, enabling the monitoring and comparison of data quality across institutions, provinces, and countries.

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with exacerbations which can reduce quality of life and increase mortality. Single-inhaler triple therapy (SITT) is recommended for maintenance treatment of COPD among patients experiencing exacerbations despite dual-therapy use. This real-world comparative effectiveness study compared the impact of SITTs, fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol (FF/UMEC/VI), and budesonide/glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate (BUD/GLY/FORM), on COPD exacerbations and mortality.

The widespread use of pesticides, including diazinon, poses an increased risk of environmental pollution and detrimental effects on biodiversity, food security, and water resources. In this study, we investigated the impact of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTE) including Zn, Cd, V, and Mn on the degradation of diazinon in three different soils. We investigated the capability and performance of four machine learning models to predict residual pesticide concentration, including adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), support vector regression (SVR), radial basis function (RBF), and multi-layer perceptron (MLP).

Objectives: To report the results of an international patient-reported survey that adds to the growing body of evidence surrounding the role of surgery in the management of a subset of patients with non-hydrocephalic symptomatic pineal cyst.

Design: An international web-based survey of health outcomes in patients with nhSPC.

Subjects: All survey participants who self-reported a diagnosis of symptomatic pineal cyst without hydrocephalus after radiological imaging.

Purpose: With the increasing demand for dialysis, there is a growing emphasis on patient-centered care. This study investigated patients' satisfaction levels with peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) care in Iran.

Methods: A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted among 346 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) covered by the Iran Health Insurance Organization who received dialysis services from October to December 2022 across the country.

Background: Identifying patients with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is challenging. This is particularly true amongst immunocompromised hosts, in whom the diagnostic accuracy of available tests is limited. The authors evaluated the impact of routine pretransplant review by a transplant infectious diseases (TID) physician on LTBI screening in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (alloHSCT) recipients.
