Introduction: Very rarely, adult NMDAR antibody-associated encephalitis (NMDAR-E) leads to persistent cerebellar atrophy and ataxia. Transient cerebellar ataxia is common in pediatric NMDAR-E. Immune-mediated cerebellar ataxia may be associated with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), aquaporin-4 (AQP-4), kelch-like family member 11 (KLHL11), and glutamate kainate receptor subunit 2 (GluK2) antibodies, all of which may co-occur in NMDAR-E.

Introduction: Reconstruction for open multiple transmetacarpal amputation secondary to a crushing injury is really challenging. Some treatment approaches could be proposed. To avoid the drawbacks of a prosthesis and hand transplantation such as the high cost, and long-term side effects of anti-rejection drugs, toe transfers were chosen.

Aim: To assess for the first time the safety and feasibility of combining photon-IntraOperative RadioTherapy (ph-IORT) with hypofractionated whole-breast irradiation (hWBI) in patients referred to adjuvant radiotherapy after Breast-Conserving Surgery (BCS).

Methods: From February 2019 to August 2020, patients referred for breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in our institution were prospectively included in the present trial. BCS was discussed in the multidisciplinary tumor board (MTB).

Total Hip Arthroplasty, via Direct Anterior Approach, With Contralateral Proximal Femur Amputation.

Arthroplast Today

December 2024

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woodville South, South Australia, Australia.

Lower limb amputation has been well characterized in the literature to cause resultant osteoarthritis in the hip of the contralateral limb. This further amplifies the already significant physical disability and morbidity that come with lower limb amputation. The use of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with lower limb amputations is rare, with available literature subsequently also limited.

Background And Objectives: Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) is generally associated with focal brain atrophy, but little knowledge exists on possible disease-related hypertrophy of brain structures. We hypothesized that repeated seizures or adaptive plasticity may lead to focal brain hypertrophy and aimed to investigate associated clinical correlates.

Methods: In this cohort study, we included patients with mTLE undergoing detailed epilepsy evaluations and matched healthy volunteers (HVs) from 2 tertiary centers (discovery and validation cohorts).
