Spectator oxo ligands are ubiquitous in catalysis, in particular in olefin epoxidation and olefin metathesis. Here we use computationally derived O NMR parameters to probe the electronic structure of spectator oxo ligands in these two reactions. We show that O NMR parameters allow to distinguish between doubly-bonded and triply-bonded oxo ligands, giving detailed insights into the frontier molecular orbitals involved in the metaloxo bonds along the reaction pathway. On the one hand, our study shows that in olefin epoxidation catalysed by methyltrioxorhenium (MTO), the oxo ligand significantly changes its bonding mode upon formation of the oxygen-transferring Re-oxo-bisperoxo-species, changing its nature from a doubly bonded to a triply bonded oxo ligand. On the other hand, only minor changes in the binding mode are found along the olefin metathesis reaction pathway with Mo- and W-based oxo-alkylidene species, in which the oxo ligand behaves as a triply bonded ligand throughout the reaction. This finding contrasts earlier studies that proposed that the change of binding mode of the oxo ligand was key to metallacyclobutane formation.

Technetium-99m plays a pivotal role in nuclear medicine, offering unique IMAGING capabilities due to its favorable physical and chemical properties. This study investigates the redox behavior and electronic structures of three representative Tc(V) oxo complexes, [TcO(HMPAO)], [TcO(Bicisate)], and [TcO(DMSA)], using computational techniques. Employing relativistic density functional theory with the Zero-Order Regular Approximation (ZORA), we analyze singlet-triplet energy gaps, Gibbs free energy changes, and redox potentials in neutral and acidic environments.

Understanding the chemistry of the inert actinide oxo bond in actinyl ions AnO22+ is important for controlling actinide behavior in the environment, during separations, and in nuclear waste (An = U, Np, Pu). The thioether calixarene TC4A (4-tert-butyltetrathiacalix[4]arene) binds equatorially to [AnO2]n+ (An = U, Np) forming a conical pocket that differentiates the two trans-oxo groups. The 'ate' complexes, [A]2[UO2(TC4A)] (A = [Li(DME)2], HNEt3) and [HNEt3]2[NpO2(TC4A)], enable selective oxo chemistry.

The Keggin clusters are one kind of the most representative molecular structures in the field of metal-oxo clusters. Although the different types of Keggin clusters with various components were reported, the research about γ-Keggin isomer remains less developed. This is ascribed to the difficulty in obtaining the stable pure γ-Keggin cluster for the structural isomerization.

The extent of coordination-induced bond weakening in aquo and hydroxo ligands bonded to a molybdenum(III) center complexed by a dianionic, pentadentate ligand system was probed by reacting the known complex (BPzPy)Mo(III)-NTf, , with degassed water or dry lithium hydroxide. The aquo adduct was not observed, but two LiNTf-stabilized hydroxo complexes were fully characterized. Computational and experimental work showed that the O-H bond in these complexes was significantly weakened (to ≈57 kcal mol), such that these compounds could be used to form the diamagnetic, neutral terminal molybdenum oxo complex (BPzPy)Mo(IV)O, , by hydrogen atom abstraction using the aryl oxyl reagent ArO• (Ar = 2,4,6-tri--butylphenyl).

The work establishes the salt of a tetra-cationic distibane, [LSb][CFSO] = [][OTf] (CFSO = OTf), stabilized by a bis(α-iminopyridine) ligand , defying the Coulombic repulsion. The synthetic approach involved a dehydrocoupling reaction when a mixture of and Sb(OTf) in a 1:1 ratio was treated with EtSiH/LiBEtH as the hydride source. Compound [][OTf] was also achieved from [LSbCl][OTf] as a precursor and using EtSiH.
