Radical surgical interventions for spreaded forms of lung cancer were performed in 291 patients. Mediastinal lymphadenectomy was fulfilled in 147 out of these patients. No substantial difference was found between patients with lymphadenectomy and those without it. At the same time a tendency was established to greater amount of 5 year survival in the group of patients with mediastinal lymphadenectomy without metastases into regional lymph nodes. More than 5 year survival was noted in 23.7% of the patients.

Background: Fibrotic types of interstitial lung abnormalities seen on high-resolution computed tomography scans, characterised by traction bronchiolectasis/bronchiectasis with or without honeycombing, are predictors of progression and poor prognostic factors of interstitial lung abnormalities. There are no reports on the clinical characteristics of fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities on high-resolution computed tomography scans. Therefore, we aimed to examine these clinical characteristics and clarify the predictive factors of fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities on high-resolution computed tomography scans.

A computational chemistry-based approach to optimizing PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors.

Front Chem

January 2025

Suzhou Research Center of Medical School, Suzhou Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Suzhou, China.

Introduction: To design effective small molecule inhibitors targeting the immune checkpoint PD-1/PD-L1 and to explore their inhibitory activity.

Methods: In this paper, a total of 69 PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors with the same backbone were searched through opendatabases, and their docking mechanism with PD-L1 protein was investigatedby molecular docking method, and the active conformation of the inhibitors was explored. The biological activity of the four newly designed inhibitors was also evaluated using ELISA.

Under stress, bacteria display selective growth propensities on solid and liquid media. For Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), differentially culturable bacteria have been found in tuberculosis (TB) patient sputa. We hypothesized that antibiotic treatment can induce selective culturability in Mtb.

Lung-targeted delivery of PTEN mRNA combined with anti-PD-1-mediated immunotherapy for In Situ lung cancer treatment.

Acta Biomater

January 2025

College of Chemistry, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, PR China. Electronic address:

mRNA-based protein replacement therapy has become one of the most widely applied forms of mRNA therapy, with lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) being extensively studied as efficient delivery platforms for mRNA. However, existing LNPs tend to accumulate in the liver or kidneys after intravenous injection, highlighting the need to develop vectors capable of targeting specific organs. In this study, we synthesized a small library of ionizable lipids and identified PPz-2R as a promising candidate, exhibiting lung-targeting capabilities, high mRNA transfection efficiency, and good stability through structure-activity relationship studies.

Fluid secretion and luminal pressure control lateral branching morphogenesis in the embryonic avian lung.

Dev Biol

Department of Bioengineering, University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX; Department of Biomedical Engineering, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. Electronic address:

During lung development, the embryonic airway originates as a wishbone-shaped epithelial tube, which undergoes a series of branching events to build the bronchial tree. This process depends crucially on cell proliferation and is thought to involve distinct branching modes: lateral branching, wherein daughter branches emerge along the length of a parent branch, and bifurcations, wherein the tip of a parent branch splits to form two new daughter branches. The developing airway is fluid-filled, and previous studies have shown that altered luminal pressure can influence rates of branching morphogenesis.
