Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common form of skin cancer with a complex but not fully understood pathogenesis. Recent research suggests the role of beta human papillomavirus (HPV) types and HPV-associated inflammatory processes in cSCC development. Beta HPV types are components of the normal flora; however, under the influence of certain cofactors, the virus may trigger a malignant process. Dysregulation of the immune system (chronic inflammation and immunosuppression), environmental factors (ultraviolet radiation), and genetic factors are the most important cofactors involved in beta HPV-related carcinogenesis. In addition, the oncoproteins E6 and E7 of beta HPV types differ biochemically from their counterparts in the structure of alpha HPV types, resulting in different mechanisms of action in carcinogenesis. The aim of our manuscript is to present an updated point of view on the involvement of beta HPV types in cSCC pathogenesis.

The presence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) contributes to the development of cervical lesions and cervical cancer. Recent studies suggest that an imbalance in the cervicovaginal microbiota might be a factor in the persistence of HR-HPV infections. In this study, we collected 156 cervicovaginal fluid (CVF) of women with HR-HPV infection, which were divided into three groups (negative for intraepithelial lesions = 78, low/high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions = 52/26).

Background: Understanding the HPV genotype distribution in invasive cervical cancer (ICC) is essential for vaccine optimization. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of HPV genotypes in ICC tissues from patients in western China, with the aim of informing regional vaccine policy and prevention strategies.
Methods: DNA was extracted from 1,908 paraffin-embedded ICC samples, and 23 HPV genotypes were detected via PCR and reverse dot hybridization gene chip assays.

Introduction: Immunocompromised persons have high risk of persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-related diseases, and lower immune response to vaccines. This study evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of administering a fourth dose of quadrivalent (4v)HPV vaccine in immunosuppressed women who did not seroconvert after three doses.
Methods: An open-label, not-controlled trial included immunosuppressed women (solid organ transplant patients and women receiving treatment for SLE) who did not seroconvert to at least one of the four HPV vaccine types after three 4vHPV vaccine doses.
