Background: Early detection of iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical treatment and quality of life for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of CHr and %Hypo in screening IDA among ESRD patients and compare their performance with screening IDA among non-ESRD patients.

Method: A retrospective analysis of 312 participants was conducted at Cho Ray Hospital, Vietnam, including healthy control participants and ESRD patients. Receiver operator characteristics curves and the area under the curve (AUC) of models were used to evaluate the performance of CHr, %Hypo. Optimal cut-off values were determined using Youden's index.

Results: Detecting IDA in ESRD patients is more complicated, as the screening performance of CHr and %Hypo in predicting IDA among ESRD patients were lower than non ESRD group, but still reasonable with AUC = 0.748 (95% CI: 0.656-0.840, power = 0.997) and 0.740 (95% CI: 0.647-0.833, power = 0.996), respectively. Cut-off values of CHr < 31.5 pg and %Hypo> 10.0 pg are recommended to obtain optimal screening ability for Vietnamese ESRD patients.

Conclusion: CHr and %Hypo appears to be useful tools for screening IDA among both non ESRD and ESRD patients. The low cost and accessible of the two markers encourage their utility as effective screening tools in clinical practice.

Background: Nephrology has seen an uptake in transition to remote care delivery. The impact of telenephrology care on chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression is not well defined.

Methods: We analyzed data from patients naturally selected for telenephrology versus standard, in-person visits.

Catheter ablation procedure for symptomatic atrial fibrillation is an established treatment. Cardiac tamponade is one of the several complications associated with atrial fibrillation ablation. We present the case of a 60-year-old male with a past medical history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis, hypotension on midodrine, atrial fibrillation status post-ablation a week prior, and a cerebrovascular accident who presented to the emergency department with complaints of weakness, nausea, vomiting, confusion and some syncopal episodes for the past few days.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a significant cause of death among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Emerging data suggest a crucial role of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) in the pathogenesis of HF in CKD patients. The present study aimed to investigate whether the serum intact FGF23 (iFGF23) level is elevated when ejection fraction (EF) is preserved and to evaluate its predictive value for incident HF and cardiac mortality in CKD patients with preserved EF.

Background: To explore the symptom clusters of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and construct a symptom network to identify the core symptoms and core symptom clusters, to provide reference for precise symptom management.

Methods: Conveniently selected 354 patients with maintenance hemodialysis were surveyed cross-sectionally using the general information questionnaire, the Dialysis Symptom Index and the Kidney Disease Questionnaire. Symptom clusters were extracted using exploratory factor analysis, and core symptom clusters were identified using hierarchical regression and network analysis.

Background: While there are numerous benefits to tea consumption, its long-term impact on patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear.

Method: Our analysis included 17,575 individuals with CKD from an initial 45,019 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (1999-2018). Individuals with extreme dietary habits, pregnancy, or non-CKD conditions were excluded.
