Multiple sclerosing pneumocytomas: a review.

Published: September 2020

Sclerosing pneumocytoma (SP) is a rare benign low-grade tumour of the lung, and typically presents as single discrete coin lesions on imaging. Multiple SP is an exceedingly rare entity and thus reported sparingly. We review the literature on multiple SP, their clinical presentations, histopathology, relevant differential diagnoses and molecular histogenesis of this entity. SP has a predilection for East Asian origin females who have never smoked. Patients are either asymptomatic or have symptoms such as cough, haemoptysis that may be persistent, chest pain if involving the pleura and presents as discrete coin lesion on chest X-ray. Histologically, they are papillary, solid, angiomatoid or sclerotic, or combinations of these four basic patterns. Multiple lesions have the same or slightly different histological patterns. They can be distributed in either lung, in any lobe and can even be bilateral. molecular pathways are pivotal in their molecular pathogenesis. In this review, we further propose a classification based on five types of distribution of multiple SP.

High-Viscosity Phase Inversion Separators for Freestanding and Direct-on-Electrode Manufacturing in Lithium-Ion Batteries.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

August 2024

Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington 98195, United States.

Separators play a critical role in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by facilitating lithium-ion (Li-ion) transport while enabling safe battery operation. However, commercial separators made from polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) impose a discrete processing step in current LIB manufacturing as they cannot be manufactured with the same slot-die coating process used to fabricate the electrodes. Moreover, commercial separators cannot accommodate newer manufacturing processes used to produce leading-edge microbatteries and flexible batteries with customized form factors.

William James's use of "time in passing" and "stream of thoughts" may be two sides of the same coin that emerge from the brain segmenting the continuous flow of information into discrete events. Herein, we investigated how the density of events affects two temporal experiences: the felt duration and speed of time. Using a temporal bisection task, participants classified seconds-long videos of naturalistic scenes as short or long (duration), or slow or fast (passage of time).

Simulation of quantum walks on a circle with polar molecules via optimal control.

J Chem Phys

State Key Laboratory of Precision Spectroscopy, School of Physics and Electronic Science, East China Normal University, Shanghai 200241, China.

Quantum walks are the quantum counterpart of classical random walks and have various applications in quantum information science. Polar molecules have rich internal energy structure and long coherence time and thus are considered as a promising candidate for quantum information processing. In this paper, we propose a theoretical scheme for implementing discrete-time quantum walks on a circle with dipole-dipole coupled SrO molecules.

Quantum measurements play a fundamental role in quantum mechanics. Especially, generalized quantum measurements provide a powerful and versatile tool to extract information from quantum systems. However, how to realize them on an arbitrary higher-dimensional quantum system remains a challenging task.
