Australian livestock industries face increased scrutiny from animal welfare groups and society, and the long-distance transport of livestock by sea has recently gained particular attention. Other than non-compliance with broad regulatory standards and voyage mortality rates, there is minimal information to ascertain the welfare of exported livestock. There is currently no standardised, validated animal welfare assessment protocol for livestock on-farm prior to live export or when undergoing transport. This study describes a novel assessment protocol suitable for use on live feeder and slaughter animals exported by sea from Australia. Health and welfare indicators for use in the livestock export supply chain were identified by reviewing three internationally recognised animal welfare assessment protocols for livestock; Welfare Quality, AWIN and AssureWel, as well as consulting with industry compliance standards and guidelines. This paper proposes a welfare protocol designed to assess sheep and beef cattle exported by sea from Australia, and incorporates environmental-, resource-, management- and animal-based measures. In collaboration with industry, this welfare protocol can be tested on commercial livestock consignments, and be used for ongoing management, for increased transparency and to provide feedback to operators for continuous improvement.

Small intestinal organoids are similar to actual small intestines in structure and function and can be used in various fields, such as nutrition, disease, and toxicity research. However, the basal-out type is difficult to homogenize because of the diversity of cell sizes and types, and the Matrigel-based culture conditions. Contrastingly, the apical-out form of small intestinal organoids is relatively uniform and easy to manipulate without Matrigel.

To investigate CHD1L's impacts and molecular processes in hypoxic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Monoclonal proliferation assays and CCK-8 were used to detect the proliferation capacity of A431 cells and Colon16 cells; wound healing experiments and Transwell assays were used to examine the migration and invasion capacity of A431 cells and Colon16 cells; angiogenesis experiments were conducted to assess the influence of A431 cells on angiogenesis; a nude mouse tumor xenograft experiment and HE staining were utilized to evaluate the impact of CHD1L on the progression of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma; western blot analysis was performed to detect the expression of p-PI3K, p-AKT, and PD-L1 in A431 cells, as well as CD9, TSG101, PD-L1 in exosomes, and CD206, Arginase-1, iNOS, IL-1β, p-AKT, p-mTOR, VEGF, COX-2, MMP2, MMP9, p-ERK1/2 in tumor-associated macrophages. Under hypoxic conditions, CHD1L promoted the proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of two styles of classical music, based on different tempos (BPM), on the physiological and blood parameters of horses during social isolation and restriction of movements. First experiment was carried out using nine horses of no defined breed, distributed in Control, Slow-tempo music and Moderate-tempo music .For social isolation and restriction of movement, the animals were housed daily in individual stalls for two hours and exposed to the stimuli for 60 min, and eye temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate were assessed.
