Bright fluorescent probes with enhanced intensities in the fluorescein channel are of great value for plenty of biological applications. To design effective probes one should introduce as many as possible fluorophores to the biomolecule while leaving its native structure as intact as possible. To reach this compromise, we designed and synthesized fluorescein bifluorophores on the 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid scaffold, which allows for insertion of two fluorophores at one modification site of a biomolecule. Rigid structure of the branching linker group allows to minimize self-quenching the fluorophores. However, despite the structure similarities of fluorescein isomers (5-FAM and 6-FAM), different photophysical behavior was observed for the corresponding bifluorophores. Here we made efforts to get insight into these effects with the focus on the media viscosity impact.

The development of intelligent nanotheranostic technology that integrates diagnostic and therapeutic functions holds great promise for personalized nanomedicine. However, most of the nanotheranostic agents exhibit "always-on" properties and do not involve an amplification step, which may largely limit imaging contrast and restrict therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we construct a novel nanotheranostic platform (Hemin/DHPs/PDA@CuS nanocomposite) by assembling DNA hairpin probes (DHPs) and hemin on the surface of PDA@CuS nanosheets that enables amplified fluorescence imaging and activatable chemodynamic therapy (CDT) of tumors.

The photophysical properties of six new luminescent tetrahedral Zn(II) complexes are presented that survey two electronic donor moieties (phenolate and carbazolate) and three electronic acceptors (pyridine, pyrimidine, and pyrazine). A unique ligand based on an -terphenyl motif forms an eight-membered chelate, which enhances through-space charge-transfer (CT) interactions by limiting through-bond conjugation between the donor and acceptor. A single isomeric product was obtained in yields up to 90%.

The synthesis, structure, and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties of axially chiral boron difluoride complexes are described. A series of optically pure bis (boron difluoride) complexes were prepared in 5 steps from commercially available (S)- or (R)-BINOL as starting materials. The complexes were found to exhibit similar yellow photoluminescence in solution, regardless of the type of substituents on the nitrogen atoms.

The development of stable and tunable polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) is crucial for the advancement of organic optoelectronics. Conventional PACs, such as acenes, often suffer from poor stability due to photooxidation and oligomerization, which are linked to their frontier molecular orbital energy levels. To address these limitations, we designed and synthesized a new class of π-expanded indoloindolizines by merging indole and indolizine moieties into a single polycyclic framework.

In this study, a supramolecular fluorescent material was constructed by using double-cavity twisted cucurbit[14]uril (tQ[14]) and positively charged Astrazon Pink FG (APFG) based on the non-covalent host-guest interaction for the first time. The thermodynamic parameters of the APFG@tQ[14] in aqueous solution were determined by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), the results indicated that the spontaneous assembly of APFG@tQ[14] is mainly driven by enthalpy. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect induced the APFG@tQ[14] probe to emit a strong orange-red fluorescence.
