Flavonoids are naturally occurring polyphenolic compounds known for their extensive range of biological activities. This review focuses on the inhibitory effects of flavonoids on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and their potential as therapeutic agents for cognitive dysfunction. AChE, a serine hydrolase that plays a crucial role in cholinergic neurotransmission, is a key target in the treatment of cognitive impairments due to its function in acetylcholine hydrolysis.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to assess the updated literature for the prevention of salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia induced by non-surgical cancer therapies.
Methods: Electronic databases of MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) that investigated interventions to prevent salivary gland hypofunction and/or xerostomia. Literature search began from the 2010 systematic review publications from the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) up to February 2024.

Mild cognitive impairment is a diagnostic category marked by declines in memory and cognitive function that are less severe than those observed in Alzheimer's disease. Previous studies have indicated that individuals with mild cognitive impairment have an elevated risk of progressing to Alzheimer's disease. The hippocampus is well known to play pivotal roles in memory and cognitive functions.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) induced by utero-placental insufficiency (UPI) results in delayed neural development and impaired brain growth. This study investigates the effects of Naringin (Nar) on memory, learning, cholinergic activity, oxidative stress markers, hippocampal CREB/BDNF signal pathway and cell damage in offspring of rats exposed to UPI. Twenty pregnant Wistar rats were randomly assigned to four groups: control, sham surgery, UPI + NS (UPI + normal saline as a vehicle), and UPI + Nar (UPI + Nar at 100 mg/kg/day).
