Excipients have been identified as 'inert' substances that often enhance the non-pharmacological aspects of a medication. However, recent clinical evidence elucidates their potential in inducing anaphylaxis and indicates that they are often overlooked as potential allergens in routine clinical practice. The aim of the study was to assimilate published evidence on excipient-induced allergies associated with the use of oral medications and to underline their potential as potent allergens.

The role of neuro-immune interaction in allergic diseases, a group of common immune system diseases, has garnered increasing attention. Neuropeptides, as a crucial component of neuro-immune crosstalk with local neuroendocrine and signaling functions, play a significant role that must not be overlooked. Neuropeptides are released by neurons and even some immune cells, and mediate neuro-immune crosstalk by activating relevant specific receptors on immune cells.

This case report discusses a rare occurrence of type II Kounis syndrome, characterised by an acute myocardial infarction triggered by an allergic reaction. The patient, a young adult male, experienced urticaria soon after eating oysters, which quickly escalated to severe chest discomfort. Allergic reaction to the silicone is rare in children and as a result very little experience has been reported on symptom and treatment. We presented a case involving a child who experienced prolonged ascites following a surgery of placing an abdominal drainage tube, characterized by the ongoing drainage of clear, light-yellow fluid at a rate of 250 mL/day through the drainage tube for 36 days. Examination of the ascitic fluid revealed an abnormal elevation in eosinophil proportion, which exhibited positive response to anti-allergic treatment.
