Unlabelled: We investigated the associations of different sedentary behaviors (SB) with gray matter volume and we tested whether SB related to gray matter volume is associated with intelligence.

Methods: 99 children with overweight or obesity aged 8-11 years participated in this cross-sectional study. SB was measured using the Youth Activity Profile-Spain questionnaire. T1-weighted images were acquired with a 3.0 T Magnetom Tim Trio system. Intelligence was assessed with the Kaufman Brief Test. Whole-brain voxel-wise multiple regression models were used to test the associations of each SB with gray matter volume.

Results: Watching TV was associated with lower gray matter volume in six brain regions (β ranging -0.314 to -0.489 and cluster size 106 to 323 voxels; < 0.001), playing video games in three brain regions (β ranging -0.391 to -0.359, and cluster size 96 to 461 voxels; < 0.001) and total sedentary time in two brain regions (β ranging -0.341 to -0.352, and cluster size 897 to 2455 voxels; < 0.001). No brain regions showed a significant positive association (all > 0.05). Two brain regions were related, or borderline related, to intelligence.

Conclusions: SB could have the potential to negatively influence brain structure and, in turn, intelligence in children with overweight/obesity.

Purpose: In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and incidence of radiation-induced brain necrosis (RBN) after volumetric modulated arc therapy-based stereotactic irradiation (VMAT-STI) for brain metastases.

Methods: In the 220 brain metastatic lesions included between January 2020 and June 2022, there were 1-9 concurrently treated lesions (median 1). A biologically effective dose (BED)10 of 80 Gy and a reduced BED10 of 50 Gy were prescribed to the gross tumor volume (GTV) and planning target volume (PTV) (PTV = GTV + 3 mm) margins, respectively.

Subgroups of cognitive impairments in schizophrenia characterized by executive function and their morphological features: a latent profile analysis study.

BMC Med

Department of Psychiatry, National Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders, and National Center for Mental Disorders, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, 410011, China.

Background: The heterogeneity of cognitive impairments in schizophrenia has been widely observed. However, reliable cognitive boundaries to differentiate the subgroups remain elusive. The key challenge for cognitive subtyping is applying an integrated and standardized cognitive assessment and understanding the subgroup-specific neurobiological mechanisms.

Appropriate risk evaluation is essential for survival in complex, uncertain environments. Confronted with choosing between certain (safe) and uncertain (risky) options, animals show strong preference for either option consistently across extended time periods. How such risk preference is encoded in the brain remains elusive.

Cognitive impairment (CI) frequently occurs in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and may result from neuroinflammation processes and neurovascular changes in the brain. The cerebral hemodynamics underlying SLE with CI (SLE-CI) remain unclear. 97 patients with SLE and 51 heathy controls (HCs) matched for age and gender underwent MRI.

Trimethyltin chloride (TMT), an organotin compound with potent neurotoxicity, is widely used as a heat stabilizer for plastics. However, the precise pathogenic mechanism of TMT remains incompletely elucidated, and there persists a dearth of sensitive detection methodologies for early diagnosis of TMT. In this study, Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with 10 mg/kg TMT to simulate acute exposure in humans.
