In recent years, personal cooling has aroused much attention because it can achieve both localized high-level thermal comfort and build energy savings. In this study, a novel hybrid personal cooling vest (PCV) incorporated with phase change materials (PCMs) and ventilation fans was developed, and its efficacy was investigated by human trials in a hot-humid climate chamber. Three generally accepted indices (thermal load, ; thermal sensation, TS; and physiological strain index, PSI) and a new proposed index (cumulative heat storage, CHS) during human trials were comparatively studied between the two human trial groups, i.e., the PCV group (wearing the PCV) and the CON group (without PCV). Results found that TS, PSI, and CHS were significantly reduced by the PCV, which suggests that the PCV can significantly improve both the perceptual and physiological strain. In addition, a strong linear relationship ( = 0.8407) was found between the proposed index of CHS with PSI, which indicates the applicability and reliability of CHS for assessing physiological heat strain.

December 2024

School of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Wallaga University, P.O. Box 395, Nekemte, Ethiopia.

Turning AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) D3 tool steel can be challenging due to a lack of optimal process parameters and proper coolant application to achieve high surface quality and temperature control. Machine learning helps in predicting the optimal parameters, whereas nanofluids enhance cooling efficiency while preserving both the tool and the workpiece. This work intends to utilize advanced machine learning approaches to optimize process parameters with the application of hybrid nanofluids (AlO/graphene) during the CNC turning of AISI D3.

Jiangsu Optoelectronic Functional Materials Engineering Research Center, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 211189, China. Electronic address:

Passive radiative cooling (PRC) is an emerging sustainable technology that plays a key role for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. However, several challenges remain for PRC materials in their practical application in building thermal management, including overcooling problems and unsatisfactory cooling efficiency caused by solar absorption and parasitic heat gains. In this work, fluorinated cellulose-based composite aerogels (FCCA) integrating thermal insulation and PRC were developed by a facile manufacturing strategy that combined phase separation and freeze-drying.
