Background: Scientific evidence to guide clinicians on the use of different antiseizure drugs in combination therapy is either very limited or lacking. In this study, the impact of lacosamide and perampanel alone and in combination was tested in corneal kindling model in mice, which is a cost-effective mechanism for screening of antiseizure drugs.

Methods: The impact of lacosamide (5 mg/kg) and perampanel (0.

Objective: An increasing number of antiseizure medications (ASMs) are approved for monotherapy for focal epilepsy, but direct comparisons of the lifetime cost-effectiveness of all existing treatment strategies are lacking. This study aims to compare the cost-effectiveness of new ASMs and traditional ASMs as first-line monotherapy for newly diagnosed focal epilepsy.

Method: We used a Markov model to evaluate the lifetime cost-effectiveness of 10 ASMs in the treatment of focal epilepsy, with lacosamide (LCM) as a control, from the perspective of society in the United States.

Epilepsy Behav Rep

March 2025

Section of Pediatric Neurology, Department of Pediatrics, The University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, United States.

Dynein Cytoplasmic 1 Heavy chain 1 (-related disorders are a spectrum of conditions including neurodevelopmental disorders, congenital brain malformations, and neuromuscular diseases. These clinical features may co-occur, with four main disease entities including epilepsy with developmental epileptic encephalopathy such as infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2O, spinal muscular atrophy with lower extremity-predominance (SMALED), and congenital cortical malformations. Epilepsy associated with this disorder often becomes drug-resistant and requires multiple medications and, in some cases, non-pharmacological treatments.
