Viral disease caused by the Yellow head virus (YHV) had great impact on economic loss in the aquaculture industry. Prevention or curing YHV disease is still not possible due to the lack of understanding of the basic mechanisms of YHV infection. In this report, the endocytosis inhibitors (chlorpromazine (CPZ), amiloride and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD)) were used to identify the cellular entry pathway of YHV. Pretreating shrimp with CPZ but not amiloride or MβCD followed by YHV challenge resulted in a significant reduction of YHV levels, suggesting that YHV entered the shrimp cells via clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Next, the major component of the clathrin-coated vesicle, clathrin heavy chain (CHC) was cloned and characterized. The complete coding sequence of PmCHC is 5055 bp encoding a putative protein of 1684 amino acids. Specific silencing of PmCHC mRNA by dsRNA-PmCHC showed an inhibition of YHV replication for 48 h post YHV injection as well as exhibiting a delay in shrimp mortality. These results indicated that PmCHC was an essential component for YHV infection of shrimp cells.

Study of the cortico-anorectal neurophysiology in women with fecal incontinence.

Background: Fecal incontinence (FI) is a prevalent condition that disproportionately impacts women. Although sphincter biomechanics are well studied, the integrity of the cortico-anal motor pathway remains elusive. We evaluated the cortico-spino-anorectal pathway in women with FI against age-matched (AM-HV) and young healthy (Y-HV) volunteers.

Antiarrhythmic Mechanisms of Epidural Blockade After Myocardial Infarction.

Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (J.D.H., V.Y.H.v.W., K.-W.K., N.R.J., M.A.S., C.A.C., Z.A.L., M.V.).

Background: Thoracic epidural anesthesia (TEA) has been shown to reduce the burden of ventricular tachycardia in small case series of patients with refractory ventricular tachyarrhythmias and cardiomyopathy. However, its electrophysiological and autonomic effects in diseased hearts remain unclear, and its use after myocardial infarction is limited by concerns for potential right ventricular dysfunction.

Methods: Myocardial infarction was created in Yorkshire pigs (N=22) by left anterior descending coronary artery occlusion.

Center of Excellence for Molecular Biology and Genomics of Shrimp, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, Phyathai Road, Bangkok, 10330, Thailand; Faculty of Dentistry, Bangkokthonburi University, Bangkok, 10170, Thailand. Electronic address:

Carcinins are type-I crustins from crustaceans and play an important role in innate immune system. In this study, type-I crustins, carcininPm1 and carcininPm2, from the hemocytes of Penaeus monodon were identified. Comparison of their amino acid sequences and the phylogenetic tree revealed that they were closely related to the other crustacean carcinin proteins, but were clustered into different groups of the carcinin proteins.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a subclass of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) formed through a process known as back-splicing. They play a crucial role in the genetic regulation of various biological processes. Currently, circRNAs have been identified as participants in the antiviral response within mammalian cells.

Vector or reservoir species of three diseases of crustaceans listed in the Animal Health Law were identified based on evidence generated through an extensive literature review, to support a possible updating of Regulation (EU) 2018/1882. Crustacean species on or in which Taura syndrome virus (TSV), Yellow head virus (YHV) or White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) were identified, in the field or during experiments, were classified as reservoir species with different levels of certainty depending on the diagnostic tests used. Where experimental evidence indicated transmission of the pathogen from a studied species to another known susceptible species, the studied species was classified as vector species.
