The blue infarct: a simple method for the quantification of myocardial damage in the rat.

Braz J Med Biol Res

Departamento de Farmacologia da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil.

Published: April 1989

Evans blue dye was injected iv into rats 24 h before left coronary occlusion (CO) and the dye content extracted with formamide was estimated after various time intervals in the 1) right ventricle, 2) left ventricle above the ligature and 3) the rest of the left ventricle. There was no difference between portion 1 and 2 but portion 3 showed a progressive increase in dye content (2 to 3 fold) up to 24 h after CO. This result indicates that either the infarcted area possesses collateral circulation or a continuous blood backflow occurred. Dexamethasone (0.5 mg/kg) but not indomethacin (2 mg/kg) or BW755C (10 mg/kg) abolished extravasation of the dye.

Background: The contact aspiration (CA) technique is often used to perform endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS); however, rescue strategies are necessary if CA fails to achieve recanalization. This study investigates the outcomes of incorporating stent retriever (SR) thrombectomy in the rescue strategy following failed CA.

Methods: EVT patients with failed CA attempts were identified from a large multicenter registry and stratified by rescue technique: CA alone or incorporating SR in the rescue strategy.

Lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI) is an endogenous signaling molecule for the GPR55 receptor. Previous studies have shown that arachidonoyl-lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI-20:4) produced an increase in the inflammatory mediators NLPR3 (inflammasome - 3 marker) and IL-1b in neurons from both rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and hippocampal cultures. Because LPI is comprised of a family of lipid structures that vary in fatty acyl composition, the current work examined neuroinflammatory responses to various LPI structures in DRG and hippocampal cultures as assessed by high content fluorescent imaging.

Background: The average fibre consumption of 4-10-year-old children in the UK is 14.6 g per day, with only 14% of these children reaching the 20 g recommended by the SACN (UK Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition), and this 'fibre gap' may be most pronounced in communities with the lowest socioeconomic status. School breakfast clubs target children from disadvantaged communities, but their provision may favour lower-fibre foods, due to perceptions that children will reject higher-fibre foods.

Electrospinning Membrane with Polyacrylate Mixed Beta-Cyclodextrin: An Efficient Adsorbent for Cationic Dyes.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Institute of Textile Auxiliary and Ecological Dyeing Finishing, Nanjing Tech University, 30 South Puzhu Road, Nanjing 211816, China.

A simple and non-chemical binding nanofiber (-CD/PA) adsorbent was obtained by electrospinning a mixture of -cyclodextrin (-CD) and polyacrylate (PA). The cationic dyes in wastewater were removed by the host-guest inclusion complex of the -cyclodextrin and the electrostatic interaction between the polyacrylate and the dyes groups. The influence of the content of -cyclodextrin on the surface morphology and adsorption capacity of the nanofiber membrane was discussed, and the optimized adsorption capacity of nanofiber adsorption material was determined.

Controlling the microorganisms employed in vinification is a critical factor for successful wine production. Novel methods aimed at lowering sulfites used for wine stabilization are sought. UV-C irradiation has been proposed as an alternative for reducing the viable cell count of microorganisms in wine and grape juice.
