Scope: Methods to verify cranberry juice consumption are lacking. Predictive multivariate models built upon validated biomarkers may help to verify human consumption of a food using a nutrimetabolomics approach.
Methods: A 21-day double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over study was conducted among healthy young women aged 1829. Plasma was collected at baseline and after 3-day and 21-day consumption of cranberry or placebo juice. Plasma metabolome was analyzed using UHPLC coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry.
Results: 18 discriminant metabolites in positive mode and 18 discriminant metabolites in negative mode from a previous 3-day open-label study were re-discovered in the present blinded study. Predictive orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) models were able to identify cranberry juice consumers over a placebo juice group with 96.9% correction rates after 3-day consumption in both positive and negative mode. This present study revealed 84 and 109 additional discriminant metabolites in positive and negative mode, respectively. Twelve of them were tentatively identified.
Conclusion: Cranberry juice consumers were classified with high correction rates using predictive OPLS-DA models built upon validated plasma biomarkers. Additional biomarkers were tentatively identified. These OPLS-DA models and biomarkers provided an objective approach to verify participant compliance in future clinical trials.

This case report describes an elderly man with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections and obstructive pyelonephritis with struvite stones caused by Proteus mirabilis. Despite appropriate antibiotic treatment, the stones increased in size, necessitating alternative therapy. This case highlights the use of ascorbic acid to lower the urine pH, which contributes to the dissolution of struvite stones.

Background: The present study evaluated the effects of cranberry juice enriched with omega-3 on inflammatory, oxidative stress, and periodontal status in diabetic patients with periodontal disease.
Methods: Forty-one patients with diabetes (35‒67 years old) and periodontal disease were assigned to four groups: C: control (n=12), I1: omega-3 (n=10, 1 g), I2: cranberry juice (n=9, 200 mL), and I3: cranberry juice enriched with omega-3 (n=10, 200 mL, containing 1 g of omega-3) twice daily for 8 weeks. Serum and salivary total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), serum uric acid, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), clinical attachment loss (CAL), pocket depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), and plaque index were evaluated in all the subjects before and after the intervention.

The well-established calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus, as an immunosuppressive agent, is widely prescribed after organ transplantation. Cytochrome P450 (CYP 450) isoforms are responsible for the metabolism of many features associated with food parameters like phytochemicals, juices, and fruits. This review article summarizes the findings of previous studies to help predict the efficacy or side effects of tacrolimus in the presence of food variables.

Aim: This study evaluated effects of various solutions on color stability and surface hardness of a nanohybrid dental composite in simulated oral environments.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-four composite disks were fabricated and randomly allocated into eight groups ( = 8 per group): Artificial saliva (AS), Biotene (B), passion fruit juice (PFJ), orange juice (OJ), Sprite (S), Coca-Cola (CO), apple cider vinegar (ACV), and cranberry juice (CJ). Specimens were immersed in respective solutions at 37°C for 28 days.
