AI Article Synopsis

  • () is a type of bacteria that can live with or without oxygen and is linked to several human diseases.
  • In this study, researchers used a method called MALDI-TOF to correctly identify a bacterial isolate that was previously misidentified by the VITEK 2 automated system.
  • The results highlight the need for fast and accurate diagnosis in healthcare to improve patient care and treatment.

Article Abstract

() is a facultative anaerobic Gram-negative coccobacillus that is associated with a variety of diseases in humans. In the present study, the isolate finally identified as by MALDI-TOF was misidentified as or by the automated VITEK 2 system. The findings re-enforce the importance of an accurate and rapid diagnosis to assist patient management.

The increasing antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, responsible for both community-acquired and hospital-acquired infections, is of global significance. The primary mechanisms contributing to resistance development in P.aeruginosa include the increased activity of efflux pumps, decreased permeability of outer membrane porins and the production of carbapenemases.

This study evaluates the performance of I-dOne, the first CE-IVD marked software for microbial species identification based on Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and compares its results with MALDI-TOF MS technology (Vitek MS, bioMérieux). A total of 410 clinical isolates were analyzed, spanning 45 species and 24 genera. I-dOne demonstrated a high agreement rate (97.
