Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a chronic autoimmune condition in children that often requires long-term pain management, which can include opioid use. In the context of Canada's ongoing overdose crisis, youth with JIA face risks due to potential opioid dependency and exposure to toxic drug supplies. This commentary proposes an integrated approach combining chronic disease management with harm reduction strategies specifically tailored for JIA patients.

Background: This commentary highlights the evolution of our understanding of physical function (PF) and key models/frameworks that have contributed to the current holistic understanding of PF, which encompasses not only a person's performance but also the environment and any adaptations an individual utilizes. This commentary also addresses how digital health tools can facilitate and complement the assessment of holistic PF and enable both objective and subjective input from the participant in their real-world environment. Lastly, we discuss how successful implementation of digital tools within clinical research requires patient input.

The growing relevance of rehabilitation in healthcare to address increasing patient needs necessitates robust Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) integration into medical education and practice. Academic PRM, rooted in medical faculties, is vital for developing the medical speciality as an academic discipline across Europe, where it faces challenges, including limited representation in medical schools and competition for resources with established disciplines. This commentary advocates establishing a representative organization for academic PRM in Europe.

However, population-level analyses of patient-level data are only as reliable as the accuracy or completeness of patient reporting, clinician data entry, and how systems are programmed. This commentary on a case argues that responsibility for the validity of EHR data should be shared among key stakeholders, including patients.

This paper proposes implementing a Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) within Qatar's primary care settings, leveraging existing infrastructure, such as the CERNER electronic health record system, and innovations like telepsychiatry and AI-driven tools. The model integrates task-sharing among interdisciplinary teams to enhance accessibility and continuity of care.
