Life and achievements of an hospital director: Enrico Ronzani. The paper illustrates the life and the achievements of Enrico Ronzani, born in Padua and graduated in Medicine at the Bologna University. He directed the hospitals of Florence and the Ospedale Maggiore of Milan, promoting its growth until it became the seat of the Medical School promoted by Prof Mangiagalli, and he himself became Full Professor of Hygiene. In such a position he taught Hygiene also to Architets and Engineers, built the new Institute of Hygiene and helped to design and build the new great Hospital of Niguarda. But, most of all, he was successful in designing, promoting and officializing the job of the Hospital Directors, which was subsequently recognized by the law; and, publishing a series of books on the role of the modern hospitals, he prefigured their position in a web of medical institutions to include also those devoted to pre- and post-hospital assistance to the population. Practically he foresaw what was realized many years later through the creation of the Italian National Health Service (Law 833 of 1978).

EMG feedback improves force control of a myoelectric hand prosthesis by conveying the magnitude of the myoelectric signal back to the users via tactile stimulation. The present study aimed to test if this method can be used by a participant with a high-level amputation, and whose muscle used for prosthesis control (pectoralis major) was not intuitively related to hand function. Vibrotactile feedback was delivered to the participant's torso, while the control was tested using EMG from three different muscles.

Vertebral collapse (VC) following osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) often requires aggressive treatment, necessitating an accurate prediction for early intervention. This study aimed to develop a predictive model leveraging deep neural networks to predict VC progression after OVCF using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinical data. Among 245 enrolled patients with acute OVCF, data from 200 patients were used for the development dataset, and data from 45 patients were used for the test dataset.

Manual segmentation of lesions, required for radiotherapy planning and follow-up, is time-consuming and error-prone. Automatic detection and segmentation can assist radiologists in these tasks. This work explores the automated detection and segmentation of brain metastases (BMs) in longitudinal MRIs.

Penetrating orocutaneous or oropharyngeal fistulas (POFs), severe complications following unsuccessful oral or oropharyngeal reconstruction, remain complex clinical challenges due to lack of supportive tissue, contamination with saliva and chewed food, and dynamic oral environment. Here, we present a Janus hydrogel adhesive (JHA) with asymmetric functions on opposite sides fabricated via a facile surface enzyme-initiated polymerization (SEIP) approach, which self-entraps surface water and blood within an in-situ formed hydrogel layer (RL) to effectively bridge biological tissues with a supporting hydrogel (SL), achieving superior wet-adhesion and seamless wound plugging. The tough SL hydrogel interlocked with RL dissipates energy to withstand external mechanical stimuli from continuous oral motions like chewing and swallowing, thus reducing stress-induced damage.

Decoding states of consciousness from brain activity is a central challenge in neuroscience. Dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) allows the study of short-term temporal changes in functional connectivity (FC) between distributed brain areas. By clustering dFC matrices from resting-state fMRI, we previously described "brain patterns" that underlie different functional configurations of the brain at rest.
