Background: Adequate hand hygiene is considered as one of the most effective strategies in healthcare-related infection prevention. The potential negative effect of rings in hand disinfection and thus, in increased nosocomial infections rates is still controversial. Therefore, the present study was designed with the purpose of examining if rings frequently exposed to surgical scrubbing were associated or not with increased bacterial counts.

Hydrophobic-modified flocculants have demonstrated considerable promise in the removal of emerging contaminants by flocculation. However, there is a lack of information about the impacts of dosing such flocculants on the performance of subsequent treatment unit(s) in the overall water treatment process. In this work, inspired by the ubiquitous protein folding phenomenon, an innovative approach using an elevated membrane cleaning temperature as the means to induce residual hydrophobic-modified chitosan flocculant (TRC), after flocculation-sedimentation, to reduce membrane fouling in a subsequent ultrafiltration was proposed; this was evaluated in a continuous flocculation-sedimentation-ultrafiltration (FSUF) process treating samples of the Yangtze River.

After washing the cooking utensils used to prepare liquid batter, flour may remain in the scrubbing sponge. Secondary contamination of cooking devices with wheat allergens is a concern if such scrubbing sponges are used to clean other equipment. Therefore, in this study, bowl washing with detergent, using a scrubbing sponge was evaluated as a cleaning method following liquid batter cooking.
