Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Aptah Bio Inc., San Carlos, CA, USA.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. It is characterized by dysfunction in the U1 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) complex, which may precede TAU aggregation, enhancing premature polyadenylation, spliceosome dysfunction, and causing cell cycle reentry and death. Thus, we evaluated the effects of a synthetic single-stranded cDNA, called APT20TTMG, in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) derived neurons from healthy and AD donors and in the Senescence Accelerated Mouse-Prone 8 (SAMP8) model.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

School of Medical & Allied Sciences, K.R. Mangalam University, Gurugram, Haryana, India.

Background: Parkinson's disease is an hypokinetic disorder characterized by selective loss of dopaminergic in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNPc) region of mid-brain. Dopaminergic degeneration of neurons is considered to be due to oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, neurons mitochondrial dysfunction and glutamate excitotoxicity etc. Filgrastim has been reported to produce anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuromodulatory actions in previous studies.

Background: Socioeconomic disparities (SED) influence brain health and dementia. Latin America (LA) is characterized by high SED and a disproportionate prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobe degeneration (FTLD) compared to high-income populations like the United States (US). However, the impact of SED on brain reserve across neurocognitive pathways related to aging and dementia in LA remains unknown.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Memory and Aging Center, UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, USA.

Background: The earliest cognitive manifestations of asymptomatic and prodromal familial frontotemporal dementia (f-FTD) mutation carriers are still being characterized. Patients with symptomatic FTD are known to be error prone, particularly on tasks of executive function, but little is known about the frequency or predictive utility of these errors in the earliest stages of f-FTD. The current study compared error rates on executive functioning tasks in controls and asymptomatic and prodromal mutation carriers and investigated whether errors predict worsening clinical status as follow up.

Background: Agitation is one of the most challenging behaviors exhibited by people with cognitive decline, causing distress in caregivers, earlier placement into long-term care and faster disease progression. In order to better manage agitated behaviors in people with cognitive decline, it is important to identify associated factors. The MODERATE (Monitoring Dementia-Related Agitation Using Technology Evaluation) study aims to characterize agitation using technology and identify precipitants (behavioral or environmental) of agitation.
