With the advent of the author-pays business model replacing subscription, mercantile publishers have created journals. They respond to the dissatisfaction of naive researchers faced with the difficulties of publishing quickly and widely. These publishers favour commercial interests over knowledge and do not respect good publication practices.

As scientific publishing has transitioned online, open access and predatory publishers have surged. This study describes the frequency of publications in potentially predatory and open access journals among applicants to a Canadian plastic surgery residency program, and explores applicant characteristics associated with open access and predatory publishing. A retrospective review of plastic surgery resident applicants' curriculum vitae (CVs) from 2015 to 2018 was performed.

Errors in language are common in pain medicine, but the extent of such errors has not been systematically measured. This pre-registered umbrella review explored Embase, PubMed, Medline and CINAHL and seeks to quantify the prevalence of errors in language in review articles since the last IASP definition revision. To be eligible, studies must have met the following criteria: 1) Primary aim was stated as to provide neurophysiological explanations of nociception and/or pain in humans in context of a pathology/condition; 2) Any type of review article; 3) Written in English; 4) Published in a peer-reviewed journal.

This systematic review aims to identify the countries most active in combatting predatory journals and their definitions of such practices. It also seeks to assess awareness within academic communities, examine the impact of predatory journals on research quality and integrity, and compile existing policies to mitigate their negative effects and strengthen global scholarly integrity. A systematic search was performed in the PubMed, Scopus, and Embase databases on February 7, 2024, in line with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
