Attentional capacity matters for visuomotor adaptation to a virtual reality driving simulator.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Département Neurosciences et Sciences Cognitives, Institut de Recherche Biomédicale des Armées, Brétigny-sur-Orge, France.

Studies have shown that adaptation to a virtual reality driving simulator takes time and that individuals differ widely in the time they need to adapt. The present study examined the relationship between attentional capacity and driving-simulator adaptation, with the hypothesis that individuals with better attentional capacity would exhibit more efficient adaptation to novel virtual driving circumstances. To this end, participants were asked to steer in a driving simulator through a series of 100 bends while keeping within a central demarcated zone.

Digital contact tracing apps were developed to help control the spread of COVID-19 but research exploring these apps has underrepresented both 'at-risk' communities and contact tracers. Our study examines perspectives of the New Zealand COVID Tracer app among 53 participants, comprising policy advisors, contact tracers, and Māori, Pacific, and disability stakeholders, underpinned by the theory of social construction of which positions technology within the social context in which it evolves, operates, and is negotiated. Although community stakeholders believed the app helped safeguard communities from COVID-19, the health officials' views on the app's usefulness in contact tracing varied.

Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCF) effectiveness in practice decreases if the fabrication of the sensor becomes too complex. Keeping this in mind, we propose a one-of-a-kind wheel shaped PCF sensor with an exposed core containing only three air holes with exceptional sensing features. The sensor is equipped with dual plasmonic layers, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO, 10 % wt) and silver (Ag) with a coating of TiO to enhance the sensing capabilities and provide protection against oxidation.

High-quality care requires precise and timely provider documentation. Hospitals have used technology to document patient care within both the inpatient and outpatient areas and long-term care facilities. Research has demonstrated, by revealing a reduction in medical errors, that there has been a worldwide improvement in our community health and welfare since the implementation and utilization of documenting patient care electronically.
