Albumin-based nanoparticles have been exploited as a useful carrier for the efficient delivery of anti-cancer drugs. In this study, albendazole was encapsulated into bovine serum albumin (BSA)-polycaprolactone (PCL) conjugates and the formed nanoparticles with a size about 100 nm were used to treat pancreatic carcinoma cells. In addition, two more types of albendazole-loaded BSA nanoparticles, 10 nm and 200 nm ones, were prepared using a desolvation method. The albendazole-loaded BSA nanoparticles were evaluated with both 2D cultured AsPC-1 cells and 3D multicellular tumor spheroids (MCTS). Their anti-tumor effects were also compared. BSA-PCL nanoparticles and 200 nm BSA nanoparticles showed noticeable cytotoxicity to 2D cultured AsPC-1 cells when compared to the free drug. The penetration of BSA-PCL nanoparticles and 200 nm BSA nanoparticles, especially the BSA-PCL nanoparticles, enabled effective delivery of albendazole into pancreatic MCTS. BSA-PCL nanoparticles also showed a better inhibition effect on the growth of pancreatic MCTS than the 200 nm counterpart. Although 10 nm BSA nanoparticles inhibited the growth of MCTS, the inhibitory effect was even less than that of free albendazole. In addition, it is also found that SPARC protein facilitates the penetration and drug delivery of albumin nanoparticle since treatment using anti-SPARC antibody decreased the efficacy of drug loaded BSA nanoparticles.

Tofacitinib (Tof), a commercially available pan-Janus kinases inhibitor, is approved for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. However, its clinical application is limited due to dose-dependent systemic side effects. The present study aims to develop an efficient oral colon-targeted drug delivery systems using prebiotic pectin (Pcn) and chitosan (Csn) polysaccharides as a shell, with Tof loaded into a Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) core, and improving it with chondroitin sulfate (Chs), thus constructing Tof@BSA-Chs-CP nanoparticles (NPs).

This study developed an electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in vegetable oil, based on an electrochemical modified carbon cloth (EMCC) electrode modified with a composite functional layer of cross-linked o-aminothiophenol functionalized AuNPs (o-ATP@AuNPs)/Prussian Blue (PB). The EMCC electrode substrate was prepared by modifying carbon cloth through electrochemical methods to increase its surface area, which allowed for the effective deposition of o-ATP@AuNPs/PB composite functional layer and improved the conductivity of the electrode material. The synergistic effect of o-ATP@AuNPs and PB significantly enhanced the sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor.

Bovine serum albumin-capped gold nanoclusters (AuNC@BSA) are ionic, ultra-small, and eco-friendly nanomaterials that exhibit red fluorescence emission. Upon modification, these nanomaterials can serve as imaging probes with multimodal functionality. Owing to their nanoscale properties, AuNC@BSA-based nanomaterials can be readily endocytosed by cells for imaging.

In the current research, we developed a safe method using Iranian yarrow extract for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (IY-AgNPs) as reducing and stabilizing agents in different conditions. The prepared and stabilized IY-AgNPs under optimal conditions were characterized using FT-IR, XRD, TEM, and UV-vis techniques. Also, the blood-clotting, hemolytic, antioxidant, bactericidal and, fungicidal properties, cytotoxicity effects and inhibition of protein denaturation efficiency of IY-AgNPs were assessed in vitro.

Introduction: Pomegranate peel is considered a reservoir of biologically active compounds, the presence of which provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to peel extracts. Calcium sulfate is considered an ideal boneaugmenting material, and in the present study, pomegranate peel extract-mediated calcium sulfate nano particles (PPE CaSo4 NPs) were synthesized and their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties were evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate the biological effects of PPE CaSo4 NPs, with a focus on their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
