Hollow silica nanospheres with uniform size distribution and tuneable shell thickness were synthesized through a one-step reverse microemulsion method at room temperature within 24 h. These hollow nanospheres demonstrated effective encapsulation ability for FITC, Eu-complexes, iron oxide nanoparticles and chemotherapy drugs for potential imaging and drug delivery applications.

A novel Pickering interfacial biocatalysis (PIB) system has been, for the first time, successfully applied for the enzymatic selective hydrolysis of algae oils and fish oils to enrich n-3 PUFAs glycerides. Lipase AY 400SD was identified and adsorbed on hydrophobic hollow core-shell silica nanoparticles, resulting in the formation of the immobilized enzyme AY 400SD@HMSS-C. The biocatalyst was employed as an emulsifier to stabilize the water-in-oil Pickering emulsion, resulting in the successful construction of the PIB system.

The anti-tumor efficacy of current pharmacotherapy is severely hampered due to the adaptive evolution of tumors, urgently needing effective therapeutic strategies capable of breaking such adaptability. Metabolic reprogramming, as an adaptive survival mechanism, is closely related to therapy resistance of tumors. Colorectal cancer (CRC) cells exhibit a high energy dependency that is sustained by an adaptive metabolic conversion between glucose and glutamine, helping tumor cells to withstand nutrient-deficient microenvironments and various treatments.

Objective: The current treatment of venous malformations (VMs) consists of medications with systemic toxicity and procedural interventions with high technical difficulty and risk of hemorrhage. Using nanoparticles (NPs) to enhance drug delivery to VMs could enhance efficacy and decrease systemic toxicity. NPs can accumulate in tissues with abnormal vasculature, a concept known as the enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect.

An applicable and highly efficient methodology for the preparation of medium- and long-chain triglycerides (MLCTs) via the enzymatic transesterification of coconut oil with long-chain fatty acid triglycerides, named camellia oil, olive oil, linseed oil, algal oil, and rapeseed oil, respectively, has been proposed. The novel system achieved equilibrium in 5 min, and the MLCT yield ranged from 78.7 to 83.
