Since the discovery of HCV in 1989, several diseases have been related to chronic infection by this virus. Often, patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) complain of cognitive impairment even before the development of hepatic cirrhosis, which they described as "brain fog." Several studies have proposed a link between chronic HCV infection and the development of cognitive alterations, but the inclusion of confounding factors in their samples significantly limits the analysis of the results. In this article, we will give an overview about cognitive dysfunction in patients with HCV.

Immunological synapses result from a T cell polarization process, requiring cytoskeleton remodeling. Actin and microtubules drive synapse architecture and the localization of intracellular organelles, including Golgi and endolysosomal compartments, ensuring the directional localization of synapse components. Microtubule remodeling includes the centrosome polarization and the formation of a radial microtubules network, extending from the centrosome to the synapse periphery.

Cognitive control relies on neural representations that are inherently high-dimensional and distributed across multiple subregions in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Traditional approaches tackle prefrontal representation by reducing it into a unidimensional measure (univariate amplitude) or using it to distinguish a limited number of alternatives (pattern classification). In contrast, representational similarity analysis (RSA) enables flexibly formulating various hypotheses about informational contents underlying the neural codes, explicitly comparing hypotheses, and examining the representational alignment between brain regions.
