The ascidian larvae, which display a chordate ground body plan, are left-right asymmetric in several structures, including the brain vesicle. In ascidian larvae, the ocellus and otolith pigment cells, which are thought to detect light and gravity respectively, are located on the right side of the brain vesicle, while the coronet cells, which are presumed to be dopaminergic, are located on the left side. To study how left-right asymmetry of the brain vesicle in the ascidian larva is determined, I attempted to isolate a gene that is expressed in the brain vesicle.

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is the third most common cause of acute cardiovascular disease, which can lead to high morbidity and mortality if left untreated. Anatomical and electrophysiological variations and obesity may complicate timely diagnosis and delay required management. While computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) remains the most accurate diagnostic tool, initial assessments using electrocardiography (ECG) or echocardiography can be helpful in early suspicion.

Purpose: The aims of this study were to compare (1) the rate of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) revision and (2) subjective knee function using the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) between isolated ACL reconstruction (ACL-R) and ACL-R and concurrent meniscal injury, based on graft selection and meniscal treatment.
Methods: Data from the Swedish National Knee Ligament Registry were extracted in November 2022 for patients who underwent primary ACL-R. Patients were divided into two main groups based on graft choice: hamstring tendon (HT) or patellar tendon (PT) autograft, with four meniscal sub-groups: no injury, resection, repair or left in situ.

To investigate the disease burden, clinical characteristics and independent risk factors affecting in-hospital outcomes of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) combined with heart failure (HF) in China. (1) Descriptive study: based on the global burden of disease study 2021, available data on children under 15 years of age with CHD and HF in China from 1990 to 2021 were collected. The prevalence and trends in different age subgroups (<1 year, 1-<2 years, 2-<5 years, 5-<10 years, 10-<15 years) were analyzed, and the annual percentage change (EAPC) was estimated using linear regression.

Will our brains get to know a new face better if we look at its external features first? Here we offer neurophysiological evidence of the relevance of external versus internal facial features for constructing new face representations, by contrasting successful face processing with a prototypical case of face agnosia. A woman with acquired prosopagnosia (E.C.
