Findings on the association between cotton dust exposure and lung cancer risk in epidemiologic studies have been inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of data from observational studies to quantify this association.PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library databases were searched for observational studies with data on cotton dust exposure and lung cancer risk. Studies that reported adjusted relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of lung cancer associated with cotton dust exposure were included. Subgroup analyses were conducted according to key characteristics.Fifteen studies involving a total of 73,812 individuals were included in the meta-analysis. Combining estimates from all the 15 observational studies, cotton dust exposure was associated with a decreased risk of lung cancer (combined RR, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.66-0.91; P = .002). Pooled estimates of multivariate RRs by gender were 0.71 (95% CI, 0.58-0.88; P = .001) among males, based on 7 studies, and 0.77 (95% CI, 0.67-0.89; P < .001) among females, based on 9 studies. Further analyses examining the influence of a single study on the results by omitting a study at each turn yielded a range of RR from 0.74 to 0.82.Our meta-analysis indicates that cotton dust exposure is associated with a decreased risk of lung cancer.

Due to the shortage of raw fiber materials and stricter legislative conditions, it has become necessary to process even the more contaminated fiber wastes that contain only a small amount of useable fibers. Hence, this paper investigates the impact of different cleaning channels on the Rieter R37 rotor spinning machine in controlling spinning strategy and yarn quality using recovered blowroom cotton waste fibers. The study involves spinning 98-tex yarns with different cleaning channels during the spinning process, using recovered blowroom cotton waste in blends with virgin cotton processed into slivers by two methods.

Rapid and accurate cargo-inspection systems are required for shipping containers, because illegal and hazardous items, such as explosives and drugs, can be easily concealed in large containers. Dust in a container is suspended in the air and deposited in vent covers. The vapor and particulate matter of explosives can be adsorbed onto the dust.

Considering that microplastics (MPs) are classified as ubiquitous pollutants, that air quality affects human health, and that people remain indoors most of the time, the need has arisen to evaluate the exposure to MPs within the suspended dust in indoor environments. With this objective, the present study carried out passive sampling to analyze the precipitation of microparticles in some indoor residential environments (2 apartments) and workplaces (an office, a pastry shop, a gift shop, and a paint shop) in Barranquilla, Colombia. The quantification and physical characterization of microparticles were carried out under a stereomicroscope, and the chemical characterization was carried out by infrared microspectroscopy (μFTIR).

Background: Textile-sizing mill workers are exposed to various hazards in the sizing units during their working hours and are at risk of acquiring lung impairments due to the usage of sizing chemicals in the sizing process.
Objective: The main aim of this study is to assess the influence of cotton dust and sizing agents on lung function and breathing difficulties among Indian textile sizing mill workers.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at a textile-sizing mill from August 2022 to September 2022.
