, the causal agent of bacterial wilt and brown rot disease, is one of the major pathogens of solanaceous crops, including potato, around the globe. Biovar 2T (phylotype II/sequevar 25) of is adapted to tropical lowlands and is only reported in South America and Iran. Thus far, no genome resource of the biovar 2T of the pathogen has been available. Here, we present the near-complete genome sequences of the biovar 2T strain CFBP 8697 as well as strain CFBP 8695 belonging to biovar 2 race 3, both isolated from potato in Iran. The genomic data of biovar 2T will extend our understanding of the virulence features of and pave the way for research on biovar 2T functional and interaction genetics.

Most species complex strains cause bacterial wilts in tropical or subtropical zones, but the group known as race 3 biovar 2 (R3bv2) is cool virulent and causes potato brown rot at lower temperatures. R3bv2 has invaded potato-growing regions around the world but is not established in the United States. Phylogenetically, R3bv2 corresponds to a subset of the phylotype IIB clade, but little is known about the distribution of the cool virulence phenotype within phylotype IIB.

Tobacco bacterial wilt is a highly destructive soilborne disease caused by the species complex, exhibiting a significant risk to global flue-cured tobacco cultivation and resulting in substantial economic loss. In this study, 77 isolates were collected from three prominent flue-cured tobacco cultivation areas in Fujian, China (Nanping, Sanming, and Longyan), in 2021 and 2022. The isolated strains were classified through phylotype-specific multiplex polymerase chain reaction (Pmx-PCR) and physiological tests.

In March 2021, a sample of nine-month-old, non-grafted, diseased rose ( sp.) plants was sent by a grower to the Benaki Phytopathological Institute for examination. The plants exhibited symptoms of dieback with black necrosis of pruned shoots, brown discoloration of shoot and root vascular tissues, and whitish slime exudation on cutting wounds of the shoots.

Unlabelled: Bacterial wilt (BW) caused by the species complex (RSSC) represents one of the most serious diseases affecting potato cultivation. The development of BW-resistant cultivars represents the most efficient strategy to control this disease. The resistance-related quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in plants against different RSSC strains have not been studied extensively.
