In vitro biological research on a group of amorphous titania coatings of different nanoarchitectures (nanoporous, nanotubular, and nanosponge-like) produced on the surface of Ti6Al4V alloy samples have been carried out, aimed at assessing their ability to interact with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) and affect their activity. The attention has been drawn to the influence of surface coating architecture and its physicochemical properties on the ADSCs proliferation. Moreover, in vitro co-cultures: (1) fibroblasts cell line L929/ADSCs and (2) osteoblasts cell line MG-63/ADSCs on nanoporous, nanotubular and nanosponge-like TiO coatings have been studied. This allowed for evaluating the impact of the surface properties, especially roughness and wettability, on the creation of the beneficial microenvironment for co-cultures and/or enhancing differentiation potential of stem cells. Obtained results showed that the nanoporous surface is favorable for ADSCs, has great biointegrative properties, and supports the growth of co-cultures with MG-63 osteoblasts and L929 fibroblasts. Additionally, the number of osteoblasts seeded and cultured with ADSCs on TNT5 surface raised after 72-h culture almost twice when compared with the unmodified scaffold and by 30% when compared with MG-63 cells growing alone. The alkaline phosphatase activity of MG-63 osteoblasts co-cultured with ADSCs increased, that indirectly confirmed our assumptions that TNT-modified scaffolds create the osteogenic niche and enhance osteogenic potential of ADSCs.

Anodization of transition metals, particularly the valve metals (V, W, Ti, Ta, Hf, Nb, and Zr) and their alloys, has emerged as a powerful tool for controlling the morphology, purity, and thickness of oxide nanostructures. The present review is focused on the advances in the synthesis of micro/nanostructures of anodic tantalum oxides (ATO) in inorganic, organic, and mixed inorganic-organic type electrolytes with critically highlighting anodization parameters, such as applied voltage, current, time, and electrolyte temperature. Particularly, the growth of ATO nanostructures in fluoride containing electrolytes and their applications are briefly covered.

The design and synthesis of highly durable and active electrocatalysts are crucial for improving the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this work, we present a novel dealloyed nanoporous PtCuNiCoMn multicomponent alloy with ligaments/pores ranging from 2-3 nm, which is encapsulated in a three-dimensional, free-standing nanoporous nanotubular graphene network featuring a pore/tube diameter of ∼200 to 300 nm. This method allows precise control over the noble metal loading and alloy composition while preventing noble metal loss throughout the preparation process.

The phase behavior of block copolymers (BCPs) at the water-oil interface is influenced by the segmental interaction parameter ( ) and chain architecture. We synthesized a series of star block copolymers (s-BCPs) having polystyrene (PS) as core and poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) as corona. The interaction parameters of block-block ( ) and block-solvent ( ) were varied by adjusting the pH of the aqueous solution.

Hafnia-based nanostructures and other high-k dielectrics are promising wide-gap materials for developing new opto- and nanoelectronic devices. They possess a unique combination of physical and chemical properties, such as insensitivity to electrical and optical degradation, radiation damage stability, a high specific surface area, and an increased concentration of the appropriate active electron-hole centers. The present paper aims to investigate the structural, optical, and luminescent properties of anodized non-stoichiometric HfO nanotubes.

Nanoporous/nanotubular complex oxide layers were developed on high-fraction β phase quaternary Ti-Nb-Zr-Ta and Ti-Nb-Zr-Fe promising biomedical alloys with a low elasticity modulus. Surface modification was achieved by electrochemical anodization aimed at the synthesis of the morphology of the nanostructures, which exhibited inner diameters of 15-100 nm. SEM, EDS, XRD, and current evolution analyses were performed for the characterization of the oxide layers.
